I suppose I'll check it out for the new dub. I payed entirely too much to get the movie after it went out of print on ebay ($50 to be exact), and I still haven't watched the entire thing after it's been in my possession for around 9 months Confused Like tofu said, shikai's works are gorgeous but when it comes to story telling he's no miyazaki. His story telling can be rather bland with entire sections lacking much dialogue or music, unfortunately that's his major weakness hindering his stories.

Well, hopefully in between class and my work shift, I will still have time to watch Voices and Our Early Days, since I've been wanting to watch these for sometime but no place I go has the DVDs. I don't care about the quality; I'll just be happy to see these at last. ^^

Why did CoMix create a new English dub? Wasn't ADV's dub good enough anyways?

ADV put 5cm's dub in the hands of Steven Foster for some reason, after he already screwed up the Voices of a Distant star dub with arbitrary re-writes. Guess he did the same thing to 5cm.

Which is odd especially since Key mentioned in his review that the English dub script varies little from the original subtitles so you can say the dub was pretty faithful.

They also offer both the sub and dub version of the 1990's OVA Gatchaman.

Hate the Voices dub. Love the 5cm dub. Switched over to English five minutes in and just kept it there. Akari's voice was perfection.

I don't see any reason why they felt the need to redub 5cm. The ADV dub was quite good. In fact, it was one of the better dubs of a film I've seen in recent years. Also, after watching the original Japanese, I don't see that much of a variation between the two as far as accuracy. I definitely won't be watching that one...

I haven't watched Voices of Disant Star yet, but I found Places quite good.

It's not a leap year, so it'd be March first when it closes.

You are correct...I actually just had a meeting with someone whose birthday is February 29th, so it threw me off a little bit.

Corrected statement: 5:00PM (Pacific Standard Time) on the 28th of February to 5:00PM (Pacific Standard Time) on the 1st of March worldwide outside of Japan.

Best,

Rob

Just what was so wrong with the 5cm dub? It was perfectly fine as it was!

Being more true to the original Japanese? Sorry, but just because a translation is more literal doesn't make it better. There's ALWAYS going to be things that don't translate well between any two languages, and that puts the skills of the translator to a real test. (By the way, Steven Foster did NOT screw up Voices, either.)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The cheapest integrated GPU and the most expensive SLI setup possible will give the exact same, down to the pixel, video output unless the user is running massively different codecs. Video is not 'rendered' like games are, it's decoded.

You know, you seem to always defend the dub script no matter how far it strays from the original as well as condoning re-writing entire lines, which btw is not "translation". It's called making $hit up. If a fansub did the same you'd be jumping up and down in fits referring to Otaking and pointing out how untrustworthy the fansub translations are.

480p is not high definition, that's standard definition. Please revise and try not to buff up your own site falsely from stuff like this, it only makes CR look incredibly stupid and amateur. We have screencaps of official CR stuff with redboxes marking all the wrong things, it's embarrassing. Just admit it's normal and move on. If you get 720p, then claim it, but if you continue to throw something like that around, then why don't we just call any definition HD from now on?
