Probably because Cardfight Vanguard did something similar.

Or more seriously, I guess since the Olympics are big and to promote the guy who won. And since Yuma sucks at Gym, I guess he needs tutoring.

I think it's because he works for Konami. Over in Japan they have sports clubs in addition to the video game and card game stuff.

Well, this isn't the first time the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise did something like that. This is sort of similar case (Doing something to serve as an inspiration)

The special sounds as bad, as the japanese movie. It was of the original yugioh series and A 30 minute movie. Just the whole plot seemed to simple and felt like the movie wasn't needed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!_(1999_film)

Toei's Yu-Gi-Oh in general is pretty bad. TV Tokyo's proper reboot is much better.

I don't know about that; some of the stuff that was presented in Toei's series I find a lot more fascinating than... duelling.
But that's beside the point.

This reminds me of when the god awful 10th Anniversary 3D Yu-Gi-Oh! film had that random Japanese comedy troop (IIRC) cameo. Weird times at NAS, and TV Tokyo.
