I approve of this idea. Actually, I might see if my library has this book, I'm always on the lookout for more fantasy titles.

Is that the British or American release? I noticed the Americans usually go for photo's, lots of colour and like to put a character on the cover, while the British prefer to keep things simple, going for a "less is more" look. Book covers for teens and adolescents might have other "rules" though.

I believe it's the US one. Although images are sparse, it appears the UK version could look like this:

As a minor skyscraper fan, I can attest that the buildings in the background are completely out of proportion with each other.

Sigh, costs more but yes is the ideal solution.

Except if you did that, the front cover would be on the back of the book.

(looking at the cover)

Oh, a young "Roy Mustang" and a pink-haired "Winry Rockbell"?
(Not to mentioned a toned-down "Lust" and "Bradley" in the background)

I wonder if Arakawa actually read the novel as a basis for the appearance of the characters...

Paper sizes are also way different, with America using paper sizes based on inches and Japan using paper sizes based on centimeters.

Best bet: someone get a high-quality scan of the Japanese cover, change it to the right dimensions, and let people download a printable version.

I don't know I do see the character that looks like Roy and the one that sort of looks like Bradley. But the two girls look nothing like Winry or Lust to me.

But if you click the "drawn" link (which leads to the author's own journal) you will see that Arakawa's cover is her favorite because of all the details she put in that correspond with her book. So yes I am guessing she at least read part of it.

...

If ever I needed a motivation to finish my original novel, this is it. (Although I'm not deluded enough to think I'd ever get published, let alone get a cover done by Arakawa.)

In any case, I remember reading one of that author's fics, and I like her writing style. (And, from what I've seen of her fan history, she isn't wanky and self-entitled like Cassy Clare is.) I think I'll buy that book, print out the Arakawa cover, and paste it over that dude with the pouty lips.
