Honestly Rob, while I'm glad you appreciated the figure on its individual merits, I have to say that I'm mildly vexed that you're still on the "what pervert collects this?" angle when it comes to eroge, harem, and other such fanservice figures.
To be frank, just as it's not accurate or interesting to see a shonen character in a static pose, it's not interesting to see a fanservice character in a modest pose (unless that suits her character). I mean, honestly, if you get a Kekko Kamen or Cutie Honey figure, you're going to see bare breasts. Hell, you'd EXPECT to see bare breasts. On top of that, quite frankly, this ought to be evidence that sometimes all that a collector wants is a pretty girl from a series he (or she) likes. Not all of us who seek out Sentimental Graffiti or G-Taste figures are looking for poses or actions you'd find in Cool Devices. |

Seriously, I think you reading too much into the review. Its not always easy to tell which characters come from a eroge game or not. For example, Tears to Tiarra, Fate Stay Night, Saki are all based on a Adult PC game made years ago. |

Nice review! I'm glad to see someone talk about the finer points of a sculpt without judging it purely on the source material, or harping on how you should be embarrassed to like something like this.
Also, regarding the testicle beards, yes they are meant to be phallic, but they are also a nod to design conventions in existing cultures and in nature. Lots of Asian art depicts serpents with beards including many Chinese Dragons, Japanese Kirin, and South East Asian Nagas (giant snakes) which offer the closest visual parallel to this sculpt: http://www.freebsd.nfo.sk/hinduizmus/naga.jpg http://asianconnection71.com/Naga3.jpg There are also many serpentine animals in nature that look like they have beards/scrotums growing under their jaws: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3076/2728817057_8f9017691f_o.jpg http://multi-medium.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/22deep_bigmouth.jpg http://neatorama.cachefly.net/images/2007-06/deep-sea-creatures.jpg http://tkcollier.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/22deep-600.jpg And who can forget the Marabou Stork who looks like it straightup has a scrotum on its chin. http://www.wildlife-photo.org/catalog/birdsimages/marabou-stork-leptoptilos-crumeniferus-axkj7t8065.jpg |

Aww, c'mon Mr Bricken.
If you hadn't known she was from an eroge game, I think you would just have thought "wierd bearded snakes". |

I just checked all the CGs from Sengoku Rance and the snakes are featured only in one image, one gigantic 8-headed snake and three smaller 8-headed snakes growing from womens backs. Nothing of sexual sort is happening in the image, so I think you are just seeing testicles in places where there are none. I have yet to play the game, but if I had to guess what the snakes are, my guess would be Yamata no Orochi based on the number of heads.

Saw this figure at Jacon over the weekend. At first glance in the box at the back of the dealer's booth, it looks like KOS-MOS.

Ah, that's what I kept thinking about. No wonder I thought she was a main character. |
