I'd believe them better if they had all the adult females of Pokemon just be naked holding anti-pet abuse signs.

So is Team Plasma really as extreme as what PETA is doing in series canon because I haven't caught up with it in a long while.
On topic, hasn't PETA even played the games or watched the series? It gives a more better understanding that the trainers and their Pokemon are VERY cooperative and treat each other very well with the trainers feeding them and treating as if they would be any other loving pets out there. |

Oh Peta you bring laughter for all the wrong reasons. It's okay to want fair treatment for animals but they take way to far to extremes. They had their way would be all be vegetarians, no one would have pets, or not wear anything made out of animals. A lot crazy stuff. I mean this isn't wildest thing have done. Someone mention idiot mario thing. They tried to start their own porno site. Peta you are attacking a video game where most trainers actually treat their pokemon well. Feed them, heal when sick, and other things. You are attacking a fictional world. I just wish Peta would disappear or go away. Till they do I will laugh at their stupidity.

I've always found the PETA backlash to be sort of a knee-jerk reaction to games that seem to be more like over-the-top parodies than anything to be taken seriously. This game seems to be a case-in-point --- people have joked for years that Pokemon is basically a fantasy version of chicken-fighting, where the primary thrust of the game is to raise and train creatures for the specific purpose of fighting each other in a sports-like competition. If a similar game had launched on Newgrounds I'm sure people would've laughed at the clever parody, which I think is being lost simply because it's released by PETA.
Also, I think some years before "Mario Kills Tanooki" PETA had already released "Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals", which seems to have been largely overlooked because of "Mario Kills Tanooki"'s more "out there" premise. To clarify, I usually don't care for PETA's over-zealousness, and I'm not a vegan either (though I do support animal rights to a point, and respect people's choice to not eat meat). I can also understand why people might get in a huff for having some of their beloved games/characters being twisted to advance something of a political agenda. Still, I really think it's just a tongue-in-cheek joke, and people are getting a little too sensitive over something that seems purposefully ridiculously stupid. |

PeTA should lobby Congress for a cure to the Pokerus. It's not fair that the Pokemon have to suffer for a couple days simply because some programmer thought it'd be fun to make the cuddly-wuddlies get sick just like real pets.

The earliest reference I found after a very quick search was from June 2000. But I'm sure that if anyone searched deeper, there would be allegations from even earlier. |

I know you're joking, but the Pokerus is extremely important to competetive breeders and battlers for its beneficial effects on Pokemon. |

Oh yikes, this article just reminded me that pokemon black/white 2 is out, gotta get to gamestop before it closes to pick up a copy. Might as well get a 3ds while I'm there. I'm guessing this isn't the response PETA was looking for from this stunt, haha

But it makes them.....SUFFER. Those poor, digital creatures. They deserve so much better. |

sure is lots of anti-PETa soapboxing going on in this thread. Don't you think the horse is dead enough?

Better than the 'valuable lesson' of the original in which we get Mew flying around giving a big fascist speech about the non-clones being inherently superior. Can't look at the cute little cat in the same way again. |

Are you at all familiar with just how utterly insane PETA is? I think if you were you wouldn't be saying this. |

Insane, huh? Well, to me their publicity stunts have mostly made me laugh, and I haven't heard of them doing anything particularly dangerous/harmful/etc., though I'm interested to know if you've any stories (I'm actually kind of curious what's given them such a bad rap all these years, besides their self-righteous attitude and sensational publicity stunts I mean). |
