Kind of awkward they want to get away from moe so much when they have Akira Amano as the character designer.
I doubt there are many people paying attention to KHR anymore just for its storyline...

Will laugh when this sells horribly due to pissing off their main fanbase

Does it make it more dignified? I'd say that's going a little far, but I understand that perspective in describing an artist who has expressed the intention of not giving in to trends just because that's the trend. |
Thats fine, but also actually irrelevant.
And Psycho-Pass is not shaping up to be a good example of trend-bucking. Sure, its not "moe" (probably, maybe), but its pretty standard in its own ways. |
Would you care to explain why you find it irrelevant?
As for how trend-bucking it will be, it's only 1 episode in. It has time. And even if it ends up being a bland, standard, formulaic show, that doesn't necessarily invalidate the decision to steer away from moe, or the artistic integrity that motivated it.

Because its completely disconnected from the point I was making.

Yeah, that framing is the problem.

Same here. I can account for at least one chick who'll be supporting the stream of this series.
As much as I understand the importance of not alienating half (or more than half, nowadays?) of one's viewer demographic, I'm very impressed that Motohiro stuck his neck out to protect the writers' creative designs and wishes concerning the show.
Only time will tell with this one, but you can sure say there's high expectations.

That there are at least two rapes in the first episode of Psycho-Pass.
How was that a complicated statement? |
Well, shite. I haven't watched it yet, but this disconcerts me. Is it used to further the plot, or is it simply inserted to amp up "edginess" or for sexual arousal? If it's anything like that, this is one show that won't be getting my attention. What a shame, I liked the idea of a director rallying against moe.

I, am completely OK with this.
I wonder if theres a big ol sign in the office that says "NO MOE ALLOWED" .
But yes while Moe and cutesy things are enjoyable and fine in moderation they need not be in every anime that gets pumped out these days.

Rape is such a cheap plot device I'm not sure why the "artistic integrity" can be applied to someone who uses it.

Slight censoring of the 2nd rape so I expect the BD to show it all. I'd say a bit of all 3. People sensitive to female issues are prob going to have a problem with this episode.
It was a good episode. You should watch it.
He's definitely going to piss off a bit of the fanbase. Hope he breaks even at least.

There is one rape scene and it wasnt really shown just heavily implied.
And yes it is used to progress the story and to ramp up the edginess.
Also dont take Fencedude5609 comments on the first episode seriously, since he probably hasn't even seen it.

After watching that first episode, the director's comments sound incredibly sinister.
-->Let's open with two beautiful men, destined to meet each other, BL overtones are through the roof...
BECAUSE OTHERWISE THE FEMALES WON'T WATCH
-->then fill the rest of the episode with graphic gore and sexual violence.
BECAUSE THAT'S BEING EDGY AND ANTI-MOE
It's hard to believe that this show is on the Noitamina block. I sincerely hope that the first episode was a red-herring, and we're going to get a complex story with interesting characters and interesting things to say about society, humanity, etc., but I'll wait until the jury's out on that one.

THE TREND WAS BUCKED SO HARD IT FELL, BROKE ITS LEG AND NOW HAS TO BE PUT DOWN!
Seriously, who in his right mind thinks that rape and violence are somehow mature earth-shattering elements these days? Are we in the 50's?
