Now I know to whom I should direct my anger towards regarding Haruhi Season 2. Thanks.

That's sort of like being angry at Bill Gates for a single XBox Live game.

Sounds like a busy day indeed. I wonder how exactly Kadokawa is making money off of those AMV mashups?

And did they screen Summer Wars at the convention? I really want to see it...

Also, Evangelion 2.0 is playing in theaters here -- subtitled. Gotta try to cram that in sometime.

Yes, yes you do. It's amazing.

The convention sounds incredibly informative. I'd love to hear more about what Vince from Crunchroll had to say, and I'm really looking forward to that Summer Wars review!

(On an unrelated note, I suddenly have the urge to check out Jimmy Choo's shoes...Razz)

and makes no secret that even after his experience at Studio Ghibli he's still a giant flaming Miyazaki fanboy.

That's actually what I wanted to ask him in L.A. Can you find out if his approach to Tokikae was inspired at all by Beautiful Dreamer?

Lightly self-effacing, he explained, "I had two Powerpoints prepared, one for if Astro Boy did well, and one if it didn't. Today, I'm afraid I'll be using the second one."

The theories were mostly second-guessing the idea of revamping such a dated hero in the first place.

Oh, yes, Astro Boy need to be updatd. Just not DB:E-style.

One interesting note: both in Japan and China the majority of moviegoers were middle aged men.

I'm actually surprised kids showed up at all in the American screenings, given that they tend to like flashier stuff, and considering the 2003 AB bombed.

noted that he was still looking for a German distributor, since everybody there seems utterly allergic to the mix of child characters and violence, however cartoony.

Um, aren't tehy responsible for Fnny Games?

I heard Reine Hibiki, the illustrator for Marimite and First Love Sisters, was at AFA. Can anyone confirm it?

Not to mention cheap figures (if your into that). I had put a stop on my figure purchasing, but I saw a couple great deals when I went Sunday.

Oops, SGD150 gone.

Anyway, I had fun just wandering around the exhibition hall. There were a ton of awesome Gundam models at the Bandai booth, and the figure expo at Danny Choo's booth was cool as well (I wanted that Shiki they had on display...). There was also some crazy-popular Cloud cosplayer, who people swarmed around every time he was visible. I never directly saw him, only his Gunsword poking above the crowd.

Certainly worth the twelve bucks I paid for entry.
