Oh god, it's The Dog of Flanders all over again. I think those were my exact reactions to that as well. I never regret watching those old World Masterpiece Theater shows, but I wish they didn't cost me and arm and a leg worth in tissues.

This reminds me of the Friends episode in which Rachel convinces Joey to read "Little Women", and she later finds him crying: "Beth is sick; Jo is there, but I don't think she will help!" Let's put that book in the freezer...I've heard the original Grimm fairy tales are worse.
*sigh* as Pat Benatar sang, Hell is for children... Robin's eyes welling up with tears between anime shots was beautifully done. |

With Nobody's Boy: Remi as a possible exception, is the content of these shows—with respect to their primary audiences—responsible for their lack of recent R1 releases, or are their licensing potentials restricted simply by their age?
(Come to think of it, aside the Snowman, I can't think of many popular childrens' animations to have ended on a sad note. Perhaps I've just had a sheltered upbringing.) |

Here is a portion of a variety show showing the "best" 3 anime endings along with audience reactions. It's pretty funny as the audience really tears up on the last one (which is what the strip is based off of here). Here are the 3 endings if you don't want to be surprised: spoiler[Mobile Suit Gundam, Tomorrow's Joe 2, Dog of Flaunders] I can't say I agree with 3, though. This is from my account, so if you feel I should not have this video available then send me a message, don't flag it as copyright infringement. |

The hedgehog-whipping scene had me giggling all day.

Can anyone show a list of World Masterpiece Theatre series that are licensed? (I could make it myself but if anyone can link me to one that already exists I'd appreciate it.)
I wanna feel the nostalgia too! I remember watching some WMT series when I was little but I can't remember which one anymore... |

I've been there, with multiple titles across the whole spectrum of entertainment (books, movies, anime, music, etc). I cried my eyes out over the last few episodes of Wolf's Rain. I've sobbed a few times reading Inubaka, as well.
It's good to let it out, just so long as you find something cheerful to watch, read, or listen to afterwords. |

Me too. It reminded me when Shu was tied to a chair and Hamdo... well, did some pretty vicious stuff. |

I've never watched any of the World Masterpiece Theater works specifically, but I've seen other material that fits this description to a tee. This one completely floored me.

Ah, the 80s! When shows made kids cry, people died right and left, teenage girls didn't like they were eight year olds, and mecha was king! I miss the 80s...!
