You definitely have to put something if you think the submission is valid; otherwise the editors have no way of knowing that you endorse the submission.
The whole point of additional sources is so that the submission is verified independently of the submitter's source. But if you think the submission doesn't need anything more than the information already provided, then a simple "submitter's source is accurate" could be a sufficient endorsement. |

I think amazon works well at least to prove a product exists (less reliable for something that hasn't been released yet since there is a change of it being cancelled or delayed) and provide basic information for further searches, but is probably better used as a secondary rather than a primary source where possible.
It also nets you the ISBN number for books (but they do not give you the manufacturers product code for DVDs - CDJapan is better for that). Information on the publisher should be correct and I would hope that the author, release date etc. would be also, but I wouldn't use it on its own if something better is available (which for really old titles can be difficult) - but it gives you a good starting point for further searches; you can generally use google to confirm data and find alternative sources: Say I was looking at the first Haruhi novel http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4044292019/ It says it was published by Kadokawa in June 2003. If you do a google search for "涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱" "角川書店" the top result is the Kadokawa site itself which confims the author, illustrator, full publication date etc., and one can hope that they would get the data on their own products right. |

Is there any way that we can have it search and not include error reports we've submitted ourselves? I was going down the list yesterday, and about half the ones I checked out 'because I knew the series, were ones I submitted myself (well, one I was able to expand upon, but...).

Browsing through error reports, it seems like an overwhelming number of them deal with episode titles. I would think as a way to prioritize correcting errors that have greater importance over others, we should make a decision on both quantity and relevance of information.
I think something such as episode titles which have both a very high quantity of errors but a somewhat low overall relevance should be given low priority in correcting. Things with high priority would be errors with a high degree of relevance but lowest quantity. So for example, one of the most relevant types of information is seiyuu information. It would save a lot of time and prioritize a lot of the important information if we took care of 10 errors dealing with seiyuu instead of doing 100 or so episode title errors. But just browsing through the error reports would cause someone to spend an inordinate amount of time correcting episode titles, while seiyuu errors go uncorrected. Just an idea. |
