Ooh, thanks for the tip. That actually does sound very interesting. I'm pretty annoyed that the 'slice of life' genre has come to be so completely and utterly overrun by stories about boring (pre)adolescent moe girls who never actually DO anything that that becomes its innate definition. I actually enjoy the genre very much when the subject's life is actually, you know, compelling. Like being a rescue pilot, or the ten thousand billion cool things Master Keaton gets up to.

I thoroughly enjoy reading Danny's blog, but was thoroughly disappointed when I read the characters and plot. Another forgettable moe anime. Seems just like an excuse for Danny to show off cute girls he's imagined.

Yeah, but there's a difference between fan service and what I'm talking about. I just mean he's these ideas for cute girls he wants an excuse to show off--doesn't mean there's any pantsu shots or nudity.

Well you could say the same about a lot of other shows and their initial motivations. Maybe part of the reason why someone made a shounen title was because he/she just wanted to show off lots of cool fighting, then after the initial concept of characters, fight scene art work, techniques, settings, built a story around that initial just-want-to-show-off-cool-fighting concept. But whatever the motivation if it's good, it's good (of course this is subjective) likewise with chinka. So we'll just have to wait and see the results.

But what is "fan service" in this case?

Having worked with DNR, Fire Crews and Fire Depts. over many summers I can tell you:

1) No fire fighter looks like any of those girls (they're also about 10 years too young to working a Fire line or Dept.)

2) No Exposed Flesh when fighting fires (the girls look like they fight fires in underwear or pajamas)

3) There Turn-outs are trimmed with Burberry accents, barely worn (over bras and hot pants/cut-offs), and aren't full coverage. No turn-out looks like these. Just as there are no underage moe fire crews (who all look like they just got out of bed).

4) The Firebug Villain's outfit looks more "stripper" than arsonist, what with Thigh-high boots, and a cloak that doesn't look to cover little more than her head and breasts, coupled with short-shorts again.

Sure, it may not look as in your face as Najica Blitz Tactics, but there's little doubt in my mind this is all about Moe + Fan Service as this certainly looks "spicier" than K-On.

I'd say this is just an excuse to parade these Moe girls around fetishistically in Fire Fighter stuff.

So long as it doesn't exist just solely for that and the story is good and fun, I have no qualms if that's how they look (sort of like the polar opposite of K-ON!, personally...).
