You can certainly tell this is the new series from the Strike Witches creator. I love the character designs too, probably my favorite of the Winter season. Can't wait!

Definitely! Future Yoshika! Looks upbeat and great with some nice little references to SW. I hope this isn't 1 season only and continues in the future. :3

It's not a Hot Pants Operation promo without showing that one scene (which happened at the end!) or some butts which happened in the beginning.

So looking forward to the show this winter. It should be a fun watch.

Moe Ass Operatio--- err, I mean, Vividred looks pretty good so far. Wish the previews were a bit more substantial, but whatever. Character designs are cute, color palette is nice and bright, and the animation looks solid. Count me cautiously optimistic.

Hiroyuki Yoshino is writer. That is enough for me to know that this will be a horrible anime.Seriously I am very interested, does this guy have fans in Japan?

I'd say so. Looking at the list of things he's worked on, it's quite varied. Some bad, some excellent.

Yeah, basically it's pretty much garbage. Which is why Father Jack's quote of "How did this gobshyte get on the television" seems quite apt.

I wonder why they even bothered to have any sort of sci-fi involved in it. Just make an anime with a blank background, and focus on what you want to sell to your audience.

Yes yes we know. You don't like this sort of show.

You don't have to repeat it in EVERY. SINGLE. GODDAMN. THREAD.

Because as humorous as it would be to speculate that this would undoubtedly work without question – it doesn't. Otherwise every crappy cheesecake anime, or one with cute girls would be selling 20k units every single season. Following sales and discussion, it rarely works ever works like that. Girls und Panzer being projected to sell upwards of 15k volumes actually does come as a big surprise, especially after Upotte crashed and burned below 2k. You still need multiple elements to produce a successful show. If the anime producers could get away with making the bare minimum, and be consistently and handsomely rewarded for their work, the state of anime would be dire.

I don't really get where people get this idea that fanservice = instant sales. Most fanservice anime sells badly, and the best selling cute girl stuff typically has very limited fanservice.

Like heres a list of the Summer 2012 anime sales, and I'll bold the anime that can be labeled as fanservice:

39,930 *4 Sword Art Online [DVD+BD]: 2012/10/24
22,254 *4 Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II [BD]: 2012/09/21
10,520 *2 Dog Days' [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
10,460 *6 Tari Tari [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/05 [●]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 10,000 Line - - - - - - - - - - - - -
*8,461 *1 Yuru Yuri♪♪ [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/19
*7,685 *2 Muv Luv Alternative Total Eclipse [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/28
*5,700 *1 Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/19
*5,476 *2 Oda Nobuna no Yabou [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/05
*4,221 *1 Joshiraku [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
*5,347 *2 Hakuouki Reimeiroku [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
*4,187 *1 Campione! [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
*3,762 *2 Arcana Famiglia [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
*3,337 *1 Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
- - - - - - - - - - - Manabi Line (2,899) - - - - - - - - - - -
*2,810 *1 Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imougo ga Iru! [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
*2,588 ** Kokoro Connect [DVD+BD]: 2012/10/24 [●]
*2,409 *1 Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26
*1,945 *1 Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai. [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26 [●]
*1,900 *1 Moyashimon Returns [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/05
*1,888 *1 Rinne no Lagrange season 2 [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/21 [●]
*1,370 *1 Binbougami! [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/21 [●]
*1,338 *1 Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu Utakoi. [DVD+BD]: 2012/09/26 [●]
**,302 *1 Natsuyuki Rendezvous [DVD+BD]: 2012/10/19 [●]

I didn't label ones with minor fanservice elements, just the one where its one of the main focuses. As you can see, most of the stuff with fanservice didn't really sell that well... and even if it did, like Dog Days', it was because it had really good production values, big time seiyuu and had a lot of other elements otaku like other than the fanservice. They don't just buy whatever fanservice show comes out regardless of quality... as tough as it is for some people to understand, otaku actually DO have standards.

It's not that I think many otaku don't have standards at all. It's just that much of their definition of standards as you describe it (and how you keep describing every other thread as if somehow no one gets it) don't really apply with me. And even if they did use to apply with me, they don't anymore.
