Still, until the day and age when everyone across the globe gets instant access to their preferred show of choice for free day-and-date with the Japanese release, simulcast-rippers will continue to exist...

Simulcast rippers will exist forever, regardless of anything companies offer. BOST offered region-free DRM-free direct downloads. People still torrented their stuff.

The groups have their self-righteous reasons, but a large part of it is "some people will just pirate shit no matter what."

That's why they still crank out half-season sets with fancy packaging that cost 59.99 MSRP, slathered with doodads and goodies.

Few collectors would ever describe Funi's 59.99 MSRP sets as having "fancy packaging." And lots of shows don't get any on-disc extras beyond textless OP/ED, and the occasional horrible dub actor commentary track for 1 ep.

That's why they're introducing they're new 64.99 MSRP format.

This is a bit of an exaggeration. Just looking at TV Tokyo's late night anime this season, the breakdown is:

- 5 manga adaptions
- 1 light novel adaption
- 1 eroge adaption

Ah, but what if Region Free DVD's were made? Wouldn't that streamline the process abit and in turn, garner more profits? The Porn Industry doesn't seem to have a problem in utilizing Region Free.

Just a get a region free DVD player.

If you think about who else uses region free, you might find the reason behind that. Wink This is evolving as I type, but there's a cultural change that has to occur before anything like what has been lamented is common place, and if there is one thing that is the hardest to change, it's one's ingrained historic culture. Crunchyroll and anything like it is still just an experiment to the Japanese to see if it is profitable and economical enough to allow the concept to become its main media of choice. They still fret and worry, some say far too much, about back importation diluting their indigenous historic market, in short their main source of income that gets them a profit to carry on, and are understandably very protective not to damage that in any way. If, and when that fear is shown to be unwarranted to the extent that it is also is adding to their profit, then we will see much more allowed access outside of the nation. Might take another five, or ten years, but it will happen as they know the future of anime is depending on it. It's early doors with this, but it will improve if it pays and if they see so much is being ripped and re- torrented elsewhere round the world in an amount that says "we're losing a lot of potential profit there", you can bet your pension they will do something about it, other than throwing C&D letters at it. Wink

52.99 each. The viridian collection is about 29.99 (and this is on rightstuf...).
God. Damn. Seriously...

Good thing I bought my tins Very Happy Wouldn't sell those for anything.

Lucky. I just noticed now and since I want the original one my wallet's gonna feel empty...

Now is the perfect time to look for them. Someone might put that set up on eBay for some quick Christmas money.

I agree with both the Answerman and the guy complaining about the simulcast rippers. I mean of course I despise those ripping the simulcasts and all of them spontaneously combusting doesn't sound like a bad thing at all. But of course there's not much that can really be done against these guys directly. I wish there were but there isn't. So the only option is just to attack the root of the problem so maybe all of this will eventually stop

For the Answerfans question, I believe that creators should focus on their own ideas first and foremost. However if they do see something from the fans down the line that they enjoy and feel should be included in their work, I don't see any reason to stop them.

Gotta love it when the fanrippers build their followers with the "stick it to the man" slogan, then load up google ads on their sites to cash in on their followers.

None of the followers never seem to notice that the fanrippers have just become "the man".

And they don't seem to care about the foreign region blocks. The subs are in English (not French, Tagalog, etc.). This is so they can cash in their little monthly check from google ads and lure in more followers with the "stick it to the man" slogan.

Yeah, found 'em on Rightstuf. The tins are another story. People are charging as much as 140 dollars...
I love FMA to the bone, but DAYUM! I'll just buy the DVD set.

On a completely unrelated note I forgot to type about earlier, the fanservice. Oh. Lord.
I don't mind it, I really don't. I watch a lot of shonen, so it's not so annoying anymore.
But it bugs me when fanservice is just kinda... Put there.
I don't hate it per say... But if you're gonna add fanservice, at least try to disguise it in a way that it doesn't look like it was put there last minute. (This is only kinda annoys me, more so in shows that are serious or trying to be serious. Yeah. I'm looking at you Black Butler II.)

Plus, shows made of pure fanservice.
Really? I mean just... Really?
It makes me face/palm so hard. I know sex sells, but come on!

I'm glad someone else finally mentioned that. That thing packs a punch! Shocked

As far as simulcast rippers go, I fully agree that the "Screw you, companies!" attitude of most of them is really scummy and immature, and the fact that some of them profit via site ads is even more slimy. However, there is some merit to the argument that they provide a useful service for the decent chunk of anime fans out there who are region-locked out of a particular series' legal streams. I will say that I myself have been using a speed-subbing group's releases of a particular series that's currently being simulcast in the US, and even the occasional stream rip when said subs don't come out in time, though I do so for a specific reason. A group of friends and I have been watching this show via AIM group chats from its first episode all the way up to the current Japanese broadcast, and now that we've caught up, we watch each week's new episode together. The differences in stream breaks and commercial lengths make it rather impractical for us to utilize the legal streams, since it'd be a royal pain to keep everyone synced up. Now if the subbed/ripped alternatives didn't exist, we'd attempt to make do with the streams, but since there is a far more practical alternative out there, that's what we utilize. I really wish the streams did work out for us, though, since I don't feel entirely good about doing it this way.

(Before anyone jumps all over me, I do watch this show's back catalog episodes the legal way via Hulu, and I'm going to start running the simulcast stream each week, to get my view count in that way.)

See, I watched fansubs of One Piece until Funi started streaming it legit. Then I swore "nevermore except for the movies," because honestly they only released Movie 8 because it led directly into where the dubs picked up. I'm going back now and watching the dubs through Hulu, because I want to support my favorite series.

My beef about simulcasts is that some of them say "one hour after Japan" and some we have to wait several days for, i.e. Black Butler II, Inuyasha: Final Act and FMA: Brotherhood. I would think that the quick turnaround would deter fansub seekers, while a multi-day delay would spur the "gotta have it now" impatient bastards to be less inclined to change their ways. Just a thought.

Basically, and people have been saying this for years, if you want them to keep making anime, they ain't gonna do it for free. If it doesn't stream in your area, send an email to those in power. Hell, start an email campaign, a Facebook group, or a blog. Japan may not listen to one individual, but put several together and the noise is harder to miss. Those fan sites? Most of them have forums, where you can find like minded people and go Kamina on their asses, leading them to make your voice heard. *Damn I've heard too many political ads lately, I'm starting to sound like one.*

Well, I hope everyone starts blocking the ads on those sites, Since if they make no revenue from their rips, they might stop doing it.

I think even if that happened, they would still exist just to screw over the companies in their self-righteous way (though there would at least be one less reason for that leg to stand on). I mean, horriblesubs admits point blank on their site that they do it to piss CR and FUNi off.

I went on the site's front page after I read this. Now, I really want them to spontaneously combust. I, however, want them to combust on the toilet, for some reason.

Is it that the enticement without the payoff is actually more exciting?

For me, yes. Now, I'm fine with sex scenes where the gentalia is never exposed, but I find exposed genetalia disgusting. I'd much rather see someone in clothes that are barely covering up there privates than actually see them. It's far, far more satisfying. I've never really understood how people can actually find most porn enticing because of the exposed meat.

But that's just me.

It is, isn't it? On the one hand, holding a prejudice like "genitals are disgusting" is entirely a matter of opinion. But what good does it do you to revile reproductive organs? I would insist we're all better off being positive on matters of opinion; it's one of the few things you actually have a say in, so why bother being bothered?
