"Until all pantsu are destroyed, only seven days remain" Cool

This could honestly have some epic battles though.

I'm so excited! But wouldn't this film be about spoiler[the 504th Joint Fighter Wing>? Since Miyafuji lost her powers and the original members disbanded!?!] Even if it is I'm not complaining. :3

I hope the film won't do some Deus Ex Machina or something with to repair it though...

Looking forward to some beautifully animated battles and pantsu! I love the world of Strike Witches. Its so intriguing. Definitely deserves to be on the big screen. My guilty pleasure! Razz

The whole Strike Witches thing has the potential for a good movie: great visuals (aerial battles, etc), an engaging storyline (what got me hooked into the first series) and animation taken up a notch (over the tv series). Sadly, a movie release is probably just a reason to flash underage girls panties on the big screen.

And that is why I doubt the movie will ever be shown in US theaters. Those soccer mom's (the crazy one's usually) would make a loud ordeal and they might petition and what not.

However, since the character's aren't all 18 or older, I can't really blame anyone for not wanting this to show in a theater. Now if all the characters were adults, then I'd say people were just being close minded. But since that isn't the case, I find this slightly creepy.

When I saw this headline I had a sudden image of some visionary director ditching all of the fanservice and moe and turning Strike Witches into a dark, mature story about young girls being forced to fight aliens*, and then cackling in manic glee as the fanboys come at him with hug pillows and wall scrolls.

* (or whatever they are)

now i must hoist you on a flag for you have become my hero.

so ... let's work with it ... not just aliens, but also of course government conspiracies, then the possibility that the aliens are a biological warfare agent gone wrong and unleashed on an unsuspecting public, then the possibility that this is a red herring for genetic modification of food gone even more wrong turning people first into zombie-aliens which after spreading the virus decompose into marketable food products, and then that's a red herring for intelligent extraterrestrial cockroaches who have infiltrated international corporations and are taking over the world to make it safe for slimy alien bugs ... and yes ... basically turn it into creepy military paranoid darkness with unending impenetrable madness.

and then everybody hugs everybody and its a big sparkly happy ending.

I Lol'ed.

Someone could probably make a movie called that and make it pretty good.

Anyways, well hopefully the movie turns out well, I would have liked to see flying pantsu on the big screen but unless it gets shown at a anime convention here in the US, I will have to wait for the DVD/Blu-ray.

Sweet!

Now we need FUNi to license this and do a one-night theatrical run. I would easily drive hundreds of miles to the nearest theater for this!

Just thank god this is a series that the pantie flashes and fan service can be ignored. I do like the story itself, so it's not bad to have a movie. Is this going to end the story or is it an extra long OVA?

I wonder... will there be nudity in the theatrical release or do we have to wait for the "Director's Cut" version? Wink

Seconding a license for this. Even if it's not a theatrical release I'll still like it. Given how Funi got season 2, I think they might look into this.

My ideal would probably be the Japanese blu-ray having English subs like the 1st Nanoha movie is having.

If that happened then it would probably not get a US release then....but the first Strike Witches had subs and a dub on Bluray so it could happen still.

Granted since this is a side story we probably wouldn't hear the same dub VAs anyway.

I wonder if Funi is releasing seasons 1 and 2 on Bluray here. The first season may end up taking longer since it's available in Japan, but 2 could happen...

The question is:
1. How many American anime fans are actually gonna pay 100 USD + shipping to import a Japanese anime movie, instead of just waiting for a Funi or what-have-you release? (Probably not many.)
2. How many people who did import the JP release would just go ahead and double dip to get the Funi release too, since it's already so cheap and they've already spent so much? (I would, since I still like to support the R1 industry whenever I can.)

I could stand the English dub of the 1st season, but I couldn't finish it. I just gave up in disappointment at episode 5. It's not that it's actively bad, just flat and uninspired. It's just that many of them clearly don't respect the work and are just "phoning in" their performances. *

I noticed a few months after the R1s of Strike Witches were released, Cheri Leigh gave a video interview at a convention. She was asked about her recent anime voice work. She didn't even mention Strike Witches, even though she was the main protagonist. I imagine she's not very proud of that role.

* (And that simply can't compare to god-level VAs like Rie Tanaka and Miyuki Sawashiro.)

Cherami mentioned Strike Witches at MegaCon when I was there, and in the commentary track she seemed enthusiastic about working on the show along with Kate Bristol.
