Yes, I'm talking about the U.S. and I didn't say for the rest of my life. Not unless I plan on dying at a fairly young age.

But, that's not the point of this discussion. 4Kids has had a net loss of $9.8 million for a quarter. I don't know about the rest of you, but with the amount of employees that they have and that big loss, someone is likely going to take a pay cut or lose their job over this. This is not a laughing matter because this can happen to anyone and any company.

I'm still waiting to hear about all the other anime company's sales reports for this quarter...

Do people not realize that 4Kids is offering their anime uncut? They're streaming subbed 5D's and Sonic X on their Toonzaki site, with GX to follow soon. Even if you don't like their dubs, you have to give them credit for making the uncut version available.

And if you haven't yet, check out www.toonzaki.com (if you live in the US) as it's really a cool site. Lots of great anime in one place.

you think 4kids would smarten up and realize WHY they are loosing money, since they haven't realized it up to this point they really TRULY deserve to crumble in the world of anime. I mean seriously if those guys really give a damn about the company they would see what they are doing wrong if they opened their eyes instead of their asses, they seem to enjoy taking failiure up the ass a lot

A website that has been open a few months has a long way to go in order to out weigh the years of bad PR 4kids built up that has lead to their current predicament.

The question is will that company live long enough to see a reversal.

Unfortunately, no other company would even think of showing anime on broadcast airwaves nowadays....

Just like all those other anime companies that are raking in the money, right?

They're just gonna keep treading water until they either go bankrupt or they score another show that catches on the way Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! did.

A clue to their problems is in the news report - namely Chaotic.

It was a riskier proposition than a licensed property that already had a cartoon available, but presumably they would have also gotten a larger dividend had it been successful.

It was even riskier if you consider what happened to all those companies who tried to compete against Wizards of the Coast and Magic in the 90s. 4kids were essentially doing the same against properties they'd helped build in the first place, so there was an element of cannibalism in there too. It may or may not be a Dragon Dice sized disaster, but obviously it's been a failure.

Just skimming through the comments, I never realized that 4Kids was something the newer fans dislike so vehemently. I guess it's what the older fans felt towards Carl Macek/ Harmony Gold and all of that business.
I also find it funny decrying the editing of shows that weren't ever really great in the first place. Being mad about Macek mangling Robotech is one thing. But something relatively new, like Pokemon, or Yugioh, that was always more about selling a product than telling a story? Doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. But, then again, being 27 and having lost interest in most anime for several years, I'm just an old fogey.
I just find it interesting, the same reactions to two similar, yet somewhat dissimilar, situations.

The reason fans hate 4kids is almost 100% due to their massacre of One Piece, which in Japan is a moneymaker bigger than Dragonball was in its prime, and a pretty damn good mango to boot.

You won't see many people complaining about their treatment of Yugioh or Pokemon. Personally I thought they did such a great job with pokemon that I couldn't even imagine watching it in Japanese.

The whole One Piece dabacle:

1-Happened 5 years ago

2-Ended up failing and was put to a halt relatively quickly

and 3-An unedited , fully dubbed version is now readily available.

People, can't we just move on?

I think the comparison to Carl Macek is rather apt: People are swearing hatred and death over something that is no longer an issue!

Actually it is an issue. For a One Piece fan like me, even other anime fans look at me weird when I say I'm a fan of One Piece. Why? Because the only thing they know about it is that debacle that One Piece threw out there. A lot of people STILL just have that in there heads when they hear "One Piece".

And? I don't really see this as an issue at all. Just explain the difference. It's not like OP was the first series that's ever gone through this.

Hell, I'll 1-up you, *I* still have to pull the "it's not all tentacle porn" card among the "non-initiated", even today.

They never should have gave up Pokemon like that. I'm convinced that if they still had that one anime, they would be in better times. I can only hope Cartoon Network will do the anime justice for now and give it more advertising than its getting now. I fear Pokemon could be going a bit downhill these days. CN messing up the times and it doesn't have that big advertising like 4Kids used to do to it.

I hope somebody buys them up and improves them, I'd hate to see all those people lose jobs. Especially now where it seems to be hard to find other ones.

Me too. I would love Funimation or somebody redub Sonic X and restore all of its missing footage and diolouge.

So maybe it would be a good thing if 4Kids was sold off.
