The fact that you said Kampfer makes me love you forever. And that Section23 stuff (like Kampfer) sold well.

Regarding this:
RACS sold a few copies of the Japanese Haibane Renmei blu-ray (which had the dub). You could also get it from CDJapan (while stocks last). |

Wow, Zac sums up the stupidty of speed subbers well.
I wish the Fractale producers had made different choices [ie- letter FUni still stream the series while also taking on pirates], but agree with Zac that I do hope it results in a really public takedown of some pirates. Zac's comments about the "scared shitless" moments that haven't been made public make it sound that Funi could quite easily go the extra mile and really make a big move and give fandumb a scare. |

its great to hear good news for a change.
I recently Really got into manga, I read like 2 Volumes a day on average and its true I never ever want to start in the middle or skip a volume but sometimes you are forced to do that with some titles that are out of print. The thing about manga fans starting something that never ends made me LoL coz the only series im reading that have endings at the moment are Dragonball and Lovely Complex, ALL the others are still ongoing so I guess us manga fans are used to that. You asked all my twitter questions during the interview so that was awesome, its great to know that Sub only Anime is not doing badly thats great. Also, while targeting Collectors is great its also good that they have the less expensive box sets coz not everyone has deep pockets. Its also a way of allowing someone like me to try out new shows that I wouldn't normally buy, if a series is reasonably priced and I think I might like it Ill buy it as opposed to only buying what im accustomed to in order to avoid regret. |

I wouldn't call you Nazis (and you're right that a ratings system with age checks is so obvious a choice I'm startled they don't have it in place), but comments from Ishihara and the vague wording on "anti-social behavior" make me worry that if it's enforced at all, it may not be the porn but anything that depicts behavior reactionary groups don't approve of, like homosexuality. Have gay characters? Now you are restricted to adults!
That said, I agree that it's unenforceable. The size of a bureaucracy from the government would need to make to rein in the industry would be absurd. "ePenis F-U", okay, that's the perfect description of the speed-subbing competition. I guess I am just a jaded old-timer where fansubbing should be done with care for something you love? Anyway, I will not go back to piracy. Not right away. Should the entire series finish and nobody fixes this stupid mistake, I might look at fansubs, but not before. (skippity-skip) Oh, I shudder at the thought of the end of Borders since it's the only bookstore in town that carries manga. And I love you, RightStuf, you get me deals anime, but I also believe in trying to support my local economy if I can. Oh, there is a lone comic book shop that has a few volumes, but it's a tiny section (it's not like my awesome comic book shop in Iowa City, go visit it if you live there, it's got a huge selection of manga, far better than B&N at the mall). Maybe they'll see the gap in the market if Borders closes and get a bunch of new customers...? WAIT?! how is Utena coming along?! Don't leave me in suspense, that is my big planned-purchase for this year! Addendum: Zac, which are you a fan of, Gantz the manga, the anime, or both? |

The sad part is that's probably the highest attendance they've had in a while. They've been going downhill ever since they chose not to screen the premiere of Sith, because they could only get it for a week, and opted for an Adam Sandler comedy which they could get for a month, instead. After that, they pretty much ignored the tent-poles in general. For example, I'm interested in Phillip Morris, but why the f**k is it playing there, when it should be at an arthouse theater? Who the hell's going to go in groups to see it? Justin: You know why New Dominion really sucks, right? No Baku. Just read the second manga instead. Shawne:
I dunno. If sales are down, even in Japan, wouldn't it make more sense to get with the times and allow consumers there to buy product cheaper? I mean, even the theater chains there are cutting prices, which is something our own chains should be doing, especially since they're also suffering from an out-dated model of distribution. As for Blu-ray, I'd support it more if the damn players didn't need to be updated for every random incompatible disc. ![]()
Well, now you know what CPM went through, just to get the last 26 episodes on R1 DVD, even though they had the rights to the whole show. ![]() |

Well I just wish I didn't have to wait a day or two to get this via iTunes (though I'll probably just direct download it a bit, either way - I'm just irritated at the situation)

It really does suck that borders is not doing all that well. I really do not like buying my manga online since over all its just more expensive. It's not worth the shipping saving a dollar or two.

I just want to let Shawne know that I'd be willing to pay whatever extra for Sora no Woto on BD. (as in whatever cost you had to pass onto the customer)
Good to know about the bonus episodes! |

I agree the Fractale thing is stupid. I'm just happy I didn't get into it or I would have been stuck. I'm glad RightStuf is doing well, 'cause I have bought a ton from them. I am very happy and I like buying anime from them 'cause they have good sales. |

I am one of those dreaded "won't get into a new manga if I can't get the whole series" customers. So many manga I have wanted to get but noticed that a few volumes were basically impossible to find. For the record I only own 6 manga, and 2 of those are individual books....
Also Shawne aint lying when he says Rightstuf knows how to pack their stuff, IMO they got the best packed shipments I have ever seen, and I worked in a mailroom for 3 years. Unlike Amazon who, I kid you not, sometimes sends me small things like DS games inside of boxes that gotta be at least 3 cubic feet with just 1-2 of those giant packing balloon things shoved in there, everything of course randomly flying about. Oh, and by the way, you guys are a bunch of free speech hating Nazis. What, you asked for it! |

Shelf Life - My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Complete Series
anime
James Beckett reaches the memorable conclusion of Hachiman's unexpectedly romantic adventures, while Paul Jensen breaks down all this week's new anime releases.
― As I write this introduction, it's late at night and the people in the apartment next door are blasting music loud enough to rival a karaoke bar. I'll probably end up dealing with the problem in a civilized manner, but part of me really wa...
Answerman - Are "Upscaled" Blu-Rays Worth The Upgrade?
anime
If a show was produced in a low resolution and has to be "upscaled" to HD, is it worth buying the HD version? Justin gets into the details.
― Patrick asked: I have a very simple question. Are blu-ray upscales of shows that have been out on dvd for years (I.E. Gungrave, Fate/stay night, etc) worth the money? Does the upscaling actually make a big enough difference to justify another purchase to see a...
Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON Season One Part One
anime
This kid-friendly monster adventure may please the preschool set, but it's hard to see older fans of the franchise getting much out of it. Rebecca Silverman has the details.
― Spun off from the Monster Hunter game franchise's Stories game, Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON is very squarely aimed at a young audience. That's not because it features a core group of twelve-year-olds as its protagonists, but...
PTSD Radio GNs 1-2
manga
This daring and unique horror anthology offers outstanding thrills that can be a little disorienting. Lynzee Loveridge gets into the nitty-gritty of this unusual series.
― Samson's long hair gave him the unsurpassed strength. Scottish folklore dictates that if a bird steals your cut hair for nesting, it means your imminent death. Long, cascading hair is wildly associated with femininity and the subje...
The List - 6 Bizarre Magical Transformations
anime
Sentai heroes look cool when they power up and magical girls transform with grace and beauty, but some magical metamorphoses are less comfortable to watch. These six examples are just plain weird.
― Let's talk about magical girl transformations for a minute. The first things that come to mind are sparkles, ribbons, cheery music, and maybe a few poses that only the most experienced gymnast could pull...
Kase-san and an Apron GN
manga
This sweet yet relatable yuri series continues as the girls' relationships deepen and come into greater conflict. Rebecca Silverman gets into the good stuff.
― Time marches on, and with it comes new worries. The previous volume of Hiromi Takashima's Kase-san and… yuri series had the girls coping with the idea of being separated after they graduate from high school – Yamada had always planned to follo...
Answerman - Who Are The Ainu People?
manga
After a high-profile spotlight in the new spring anime Golden Kamuy, some readers are curious to know more about Japan's Ainu population. Justin is happy to oblige!
― Eric asked: I'd watched the first episode of Golden Kamuy, and that anime and even its original manga had mentioned about the people of Ainu in Japan in which I know they're somewhat similar to the Native American Indians in the Americ...
20 Years Ago: The Best Anime of 1998
anime
With one enormous smash hit after another, it's hard to overstate just how big a year 1998 was for anime - thankfully, Daryl Surat is here to run down the biggest and brightest hits of that spectacular year.
― We've reached the point now where multiple generations of anime fans have relied on the Internet as their primary means of organization and interaction, to the point where they accept it as giv...
Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge BD/DVD
anime
This movie offers a pleasant but nonessential side quest for anyone who misses spending time with the Hunter x Hunter gang. Nick Creamer has the details.
― With the Hunter x Hunter manga on consistent hiatus and the future of its anime adaptation even less certain, an anime-original tie-in film like Phantom Rouge can feel almost like a kind of narrative life support. I love Gon and Killua and their f...
