I'd like you to actually listen to me for once on this subject, but if you're going to do the internet equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and humming really loudly (which also appears to be how you watched the show, given how you managed to miss the entire point) then why even bother?

Doing that doesn't do any good when you're watching subtitled content. (I haven't seen the dub.)

Surely you jest, my dear friend.

Surely you could actually heed context, my dear friend.

While Chagen is being lolChagen, Horizon is vastly better animated than Qwaser.

Horizon's animation is perhaps its best point, I'll grant you, but it's not better than Qwaser's and Horizon certainly isn't an even equal-looking (much less better-looking) series when it comes to character designs, renderings, coloring, or static visuals. The only thing that Horizon might have an edge in is CG effects.

I have high doubts that something as puerile and sophomoric as Qwaser could ever be in the same sentence as "quality".

At least porn is up-front about its intentions.

I'm wondering if you've seen any of the show, or just enough so we can't accuse you of not, or if you just like to point out that anything with nudity and fetish material cannot possibly be entertaining or have merits in animation, sound, and even writing and character.

I'm also starting to suspect that you haven't actually seen much (any?) of the series. To assert that Qwaser isn't up-front about its intentions is ludicrous for anyone who has seen it.

And again, stick to the context. We're talking about visual quality, not storytelling or writing quality, here.

My point is that Qwaser purports to be an action show that just happens to have a lot of fanservice when it's one 1/100 of a step from straight-up porn.

Yes it looks nice but that artistry is wasted.

Ok...? This isn't what you said originally, however.

Wasted how? Isn't it possible that a show can both be measurably good and not appeal to everyone?

It's still a competent action show with fantastic art design and some fairly impressive animation. Sure the whole premise is played for laughs and is intentionally offensive, but it's not that much more shallow than a dozen similar-besides-the-copious-amount-of-nipples shows cut from the same "our hero must find a method to out-fight the villain of the week" shows.

The only thing it'd be wasted on is someone who's got such a fundamental hang-up about boobies that they can't acknowledge that a show might have something to offer, even if its gimmick isn't one that happens to appeal to you.

You want to suggest that pornography, or in this case even borderline X-rated material is instantly without merit? Go ahead: Kanashimi no Belladonna, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, and Legend of the Blue Wolves vehemently disagree with you.

Given what hentai are allowed in budgets and animation talent, I'd rather have ridiculous but well done TV fare like Qwaser, Manyuu Hikenchou, and Ladies Versus Butlers. Your opinion does fit what I think Ikki Tousen, the first season of To LOVE-ru and Senran Kagura. Those are mostly wastes of time and effort because they do tease. TLR Darkness broke through that barrier to become a story with more focus and far more nudity, and thus results in a better experience watching. I honestly prefer something that only shows off tits, and does it well and often, versus most true hentai. Even teasing but close OVAs like Asa Made Jugyou Chu! are far superior even if they lack actual sex.

You guys are alot more patient than I could ever be. I would've just told Chagen to go fudge himself. People like this don't deserve dignified reponses.

Pretty much the best answer to the people who always say "just watch a hentai". Ecchi anime is often much better than hentai and has a bigger budget. Not that there's not good hentai out there, but in addition to a better budget ecchi anime characters tend to be, well, better characters, and becoming invested in them can make it more enjoyable experience. It's the same reason I'd rather read doujinshi of established characters rather than a stand-alone hentai.

Pure hentai can become boring if it's just sex, especially if the art, character, and animation are garbage (thanks, Vanilla Series, for ruining so many good manga). I think Pixy is the only studio that produces hentai in resolutions higher than 480p, perhaps 540p?, but likely not 720p. It's almost embarrassing how little they have to work with, and Pixy only gets a break because it's connected to Black Lilith who make a killing in eroge sales, also allowing them to sell their anime products at half price. Beyond that, there's maybe 3 notable auteur directors in hentai, and Obari and Urushihara seem to be long out of the game, leaving Murakami and his Cloverfield-vision. I think people who toss that "why not just watch hentai?" line don't watch hentai themselves, so they have zero idea what they're gabbing about.

Hentai may be one of the few places the flawed Sturgeon's Law applies. Out of the 100-140 hentai episodes released each year, maybe like 10-15 are worth keeping. I'd much rather have more Ladies Versus Butlers than any given 100 episodes of non-Pixy hentai.

If you want actual porn, sometimes even with pretty decent plots, eromanga, both official and doujinshi, is the place to look.

I'd argue that Japanese Eromanga is the only medium where pornography and plot can legitimately coexist, at least anymore.
