Well, looks like I'm going to have to bust out the ol' thinpack and rewatch the original at some point. Good things are coming up in 2011, (hopefully) very good things...

Wow I'm pretty excited for this, minus the use of 3D. Hopefully the ending won't be as bad as the first one though.

Why do I feel like stereoscopic 3D will make Gonzo's trademark horribly-blended CGI stick out even more like a sore thumb?
And yeah, leftbehind, as much as I liked the series, the ending left much to be desired (though sadly, it was on the good side as far as Gonzo endings go). I wound up having to read the DVD paper insert to figure out entirely what happened.

Gonzo is the best studio in my book!!! They made a ton of my favorite anime, sooo happy to see them back in action xD!

Loved Last Exile up until the final eps - they couldn't quite bring all of the interesting storylines to a reasonable conclusion - just kind of a mess in the end. I only care since it was really good up to that so exceptions were high.
I'll hope they can put together a good script and but being 3D and all the mechanical designs might get all the attention. Looking forward to it either way I guess as it as potential to be good.

Funny, I actually just finished re-watching the first series last week. Never had the same love others had for it, but I did enjoy it and am looking forward to this. Am curious though on what the setting will be exactly. Will it be years later or a prequel?

Yes, because life always wraps events up in neat boxes with nicely tied bows.
I liked the ending, but then I've been reading SF a lot longer than I've been watching anime, so I liked that it did not hit the viewer over the head to explain everything that was going on.

I guess that Range Murata picture on that folder was a giveaway, after all. Well, if GONZO needed a title to get some money rolling for them, as well as showcase their new 3D skills, a second dip into the Last Exile world is a pretty good place to start. I wonder if this is going to be a sequel or prequel, or if it is taking place wherever the ship at the end left to (or inside it). Last Exile was one of those stories that, like Gunbuster, didn't necessary need another installment, but was open to the possibility of having one. I hope everything works out well for it and GONZO, including on the 3D front (even though I'm not much of a fan of it, though it has the potential to enhance a work's presentation and, to a lesser extent, storytelling).

I welcome more airship-to-airship combat.

I absolutely love Last Exile. I hope this one will be as great as the first one is.
