Whatever happened to the US release? It was licensed and then they pulled it or something. Are they just not going to release this one here?

Read the article. It tells you why Sentai CAN'T release it.

Yes, it tells why Sentai isn't releasing it. But it doesn't explain why the Japanese licensors pulled it from Sentai in the first place?

Only the home video release is pulled. Sentai is still allowed to stream it.
My guess is they are scared of reverse importation.

...except Sentai only had the DVD rights. Reverse importation would have been a lesser issue...

You guys seem to be forgetting that the licensor requested a buy back from ALL territories OUTSIDE of Asia. I doubt reverse importation, content, et.c., would even come close to the actual reason. Perhaps there was an error in deciding royalty dues (as in who gets what portion of the licensing fee), someone wasn't paid, someone decided at the last minute to rescind their approval of the contract, and so on. We'll never know the real reason, and speculating isn't gonna do anyone any good.
Perhaps Sentai might try again after the second season starts up, but I doubt it. We can only wait and see.
