Because one day someone might attempt to outlaw a book, film or video game you wish to consume. If you don't stand up now, why should anyone stand up for you? More importantly, if no one stands up against the government, they will assume that no one cares and continue to exploit their power whenever possible. And don't think solving the problem is as simple as voting out the incumbent party. The divide here is between authoritarians and libertarians, not a simplistic left/right political split. |

I went to a Comic Book Legal Defense Fund panel at New York Comic Con. They told the story of how an Idaho man's girlfriend broke up with him & showed the cops manga as an act of revenge & had him arrested. The CBLDF had the charges dropped before the case came to trial. |
