I was excited when I read this. Rio was one of the best ecchi series I have ever seen and I will certainly buy this when it comes out. That is if they get it out. Granted the anime did not do all that well in sales it probably did not need to. Rio has been around for about a decade in Japan and she is really popular having been featured in DOA Paradise and releasing a lot of merchandise. The anime may have been made to promote the franchise. Very Happy

I think Media Blasters is trying to do something with Squid Girl; I saw it in the children's DVDs at Target and the "Just for Kids" section of Netflix. I think they may be trying to get a deal on a children's TV channel with all this marketing to children.

I saw Squid Girl for streaming on Netflix as well, presumably dubbed, being all of the anime on Netflix Instant is dubbed.

I don't think you've seen a lot of other modern ecchi series this if this was among the best. Rio was really tame. Unless you're talking about it being a series with ecchi rather than a series with a primary focus on ecchi being its core.

I doubt they have the money to dub anything at this rate.

believe it or not, they are considering it lol
(This is a comment they made on their Facebook page)

"But we are now really looking hard at dubs again. We honestly were thinking none in 2013 but that is starting to change which is a good sign for all involved. We understand that without a dub, you can watch just about anywhere and our VOD guys now kind of want it."

I agreed, I watch the anime on CR and there wasn't a lot of ecchi (and I was surprised because I thought Tecmo would want this anime to have a lot of fanservice, turn out in the end there's little fanservice).

I have seen many modern ecchi series including Queens blade, Qwaser, To love ru, Senran Kagura and others, some of those I even own on dvd. Rio was great because the main character was really attractive ,as were many others, and the series had a pretty fun, unique and unpredictable take on typical genre tropes utilizing the casino theme and having Rio take on opponents in a wide variety of creative games to become a casino dealer or whatever. It seemed like the staff at Xebec had fun animating it the way each episode was executed. I guess what is considered fanservice is subjective to certain degree, because what the series showed of Rio and some other girls in the series was good enough for me. I like nipples, nudity and what not, but in the end its about how attractive the girls are for me regardless of what is shown or not.

Said no one ever.....

But seriously, why? If MB would have said they licensed Ladies vs. Butlers, I would have thrown money at my screen, I did buy Kanokon after all, but, I can watch rio on crunchyroll, and it was good enough for that, no need to buy it. I was one of the fools who bought volume 1 of Kanokon, then they cancelled the volumes for a complete collection, so I would buy Ladies vs. Butlers.

Maybe MB needs to partner up with crunchyroll, and work together in releasing DVD, and blu-rays. If anything, Crunchyroll might be able to save MB, or beter yet, just buy them outright, and start releasing their own stuff. let John keep the Kitty line, and CR can have the animeworks line. Then maybe CR could release some anime, as well as some of the live action drama.

To think I ever wasted my time on this "anime". If a zombie like Media Blasters is going to keep picking up anime, why not get GOOD shows instead? Leave this ecchi trash back in Area 11 where it belongs.

If MB's really in that bad shape, why don't John Sirabella and Sean Molyneaux just sell the company? I hear Ted Turner's got billions of dollars he could back an anime licensing house with. Since that's not likely to happen, FUNimation/Viz/Sentai should buy it.

Later, marks!

Why would anyone want to buy a zombie business which doesn't even have any good licenses and that has burned so many bridges with fans?

Seriously, its not that big a deal Rolling Eyes I can like Rio. Does me liking it bother you or something? No one has been able to explain why the show is bad. They just say it sucks and leave it at that. I explained why I like it. It has many of the same elements as any other ecchi show, but like I said in an earlier post the execution was unique and fun. I guess it also helps that I frequent casinos occasionally. I like Kanokon and Ladies vs. butlers as well ,and even own Kanokon on dvd, but I always had a problem with the girls faces and neither of those series were really unique or had a decent story . The characters' faces in those series just look so bland even though the bodies are good. The girls in Rio ,especially Rio and Rina, are attractive from head to toe and the series was animated by Xebec who did Kanokon and Ladies Vs. Butlers as well and as for why Media Blasters licensed this, they probably did because it was cheap. Irregardless of why, I [b]will buy this.

MB had lots of good properties throughout its run. I could see FUNi rescuing season 1 of Ah! My Goddess. Fushigi Yuugi, Kenshin, and MB's other top-tier anime. (Anything Arvintel dubbed can walk.)

I don't think they have all those series anymore but why should that stop anyone from rescuing them or buying MB?

Current licenses would be the only reason to buy the company; lapsed ones could be rescued without going through them.

If they dub this show it'll be the death of the company. They should follow sentai's motto, sub only until you have lots of money. Then dub good shows that will sell. It would be nice if they would re-press bludgeoning angel dokuro-chan special edition. I placed my order Aug 28, 2012! Just waiting for them to announce they no longer have the license. Laughing
