I'm picturing in my mind the Conan jokes already, yet I'm sure those cheeky Russian entrepeneurs will provide this otaku whatever outfit he wants. If I was headed to the ISS (i.e. had more money than I knew what do with) I wouldn't need any cosplaying gimmicks to make the trip worthwhile...

"Blame It on the misfortune of your birth."
"One does not care to acknowledge the mistakes of one's youth."
"I came here to laugh at you"
"Let's test the reaction time of your brand new mobile suit!"
I'd imagine the third one would be a killer to use among people who are keeping you alive in the cold vacuum of space

Heh, now anime is influencing space travel.
This guy's probably going to scout out some areas to put colonies... or something.
I think this is really cool, if not wierd.

As I was reading this, I thought the same thing.
I mean, if there were anyone for an Otaku to cosplay in space, why not Char?
It just makes sense, somehow.

He can't use the american suit because he will be flying on the Soyuz space craft. The Russian ship is not compatible with the Nasa suits. As far as him dressing up in the Char costume it should not be a problem once he is there but during flight its not going to work. I am a big Gundam fan so I hope they will let him use it during his time on station.

Conan wouldn't joke about it unless he was wearing something Star Wars or Star Trek related.
Besides, isn't this just his way of saying "I'M A BIGGER OTAKU THAN YOU PLANET EARTH!" ?

Sometime in the early 90s, I think, Leiji Matsumoto asked one of the Japanese astronauts going up with the Shuttle to wear his watch on the mission (which he did). But this is taking it to what Bushwick Bill would call, "that other level of the game."

You know, for $20 Million, he could show up naked for all anyone should care (as long as the proper waivers are signed). I mean, it's $20,000,000!

I thought they were gonna ban future "Space Tourist Flights" due to a dispute between NASA and the Russians?

NASA settled that as long as the tourist does SOMETHING scientific, then they'll allow it. Usually they're given some simple experiment to run during their three days in orbit.
Nope, he won't be able to wear the Char outfit during launch and reentry... but he could wear the mask the entire time, and change into full Char regalia while on the ISS.
Perhaps he might win over the hearts and minds of his four other compatriots and declare the International Space Station a 'free and independent colony!' Later, they will switch over to full production of Zaku's for the fight ahead.

I wonder...will the Space Shuttle be painted red?
And if it is: would it move with triple the speed of other Space Shuttles belonging to the same class?

I'm confused. Isn't Char's last name spelled Aznable?

I'm in awe of this man's hardcore-ness!
When do we get word if he's allowed or not?
