That 83 is accualy an 84 and that 85 is an 86. here in North America we register cars one year newer than in japan. for example you could go to a dealership today and buy and register a 2006 honda civic but it isn't technicly 2006 yet it's still 2005. in Japan the car isn't a 2006 unless it was acualy built in 2006. My 1985 AE86 was built in oct 84 but it is registered as a 1985 model in japan it would have been an 84. The AE86 had an face lift mid way thru it's life. The Zenki (means first or early) was from 84-85 the Kouki (means last or late) was from 86-87. The AE86 from Initial D was a Zenki (an 85) model the car in the first picture you posted is also a Zenki, the other is a Kouki. Someone was asking what the car cost new. my registation for my 1985 Corolla GT-S shows the price when new was $9,493. now in the mid-80s Japanese cars were still viewed as cheap ecomomy cars and almost 10k for a "Japanese 4-banger" wasn't cheap back then, so the AE86 was not very popular untill the mid 90s when the prices came down but then Initial D hyped them up and now they are all incresing in value, I've seen some highly modified ones sell for $12k and I've even seen some people pay $3K for an SR5 on ebay. |

...... View the pages for yourself: http://www.alljapanesecars.com/viewmd.php3?mk=Toyota&md=Sprinter%20Trueno 1983 http://www.alljapanesecars.com/viewcr.php3?mk=Toyota&md=Sprinter%20Trueno&yr=1983&mc=AE86 1985 http://www.alljapanesecars.com/viewcr.php3?mk=Toyota&md=Sprinter%20Trueno&yr=1985&mc=AE86 The BASE Trueno Tofu Car is an 83 Model IN JAPAN. However, it's plausable that due to Bunta's tuning and tweaking, he might've swapped out parts. The major difference is in the tail-lights. In the Anime, the center garnish area (where the TOYOTA in white is) is all black. What your suggesting is that the center garnish area lights up with a red bar from the ends. Problem is, the 83-84 backtail-lights are not interchangeable with 85-87. Look even at the tail-lights from the 84-84 and the 86-87 USDM models. In addition to the smokey tint of the 86-87 tail-lights, the designs are completely differentm as is the wiring schematics. Next thing your gonna say, Mako and Saiyuki's Sil-Eighty is the real deal from Nissan..... |

As for Jerry's Corolla GTS, it's not bad. tempest can still blow it away with his STi, though.

Well, I'm not gonna compare the AE86 to my 2005 Mustang V6. |
