Well, it's called a turn-based RPG for a reason. It's worked fine for them for years, and it shall continue to work. No need to majorly overhaul the mechanics for their game, out of nowhere.

I think the problem stems from how it's suppose to be some 'competitive game' but when you see all the 'competitive matches' people spend 3/4ths of the match switching Pokemon in and out and not actually battling each other. Then when they do actually fight, most battles only last 1 or 2 attacks. Imagine if the anime did that, switching Pokemon every 10 seconds and people fumbling all over each other with no real fighting going on. It'd be better boring and one reason I never bothered with competitive play.
