I would be surprised by a dub. I was surprised that Bandai managed to get the last disk of the series out before closing their doors.

With all the Bandai license rescues, I had hoped that Sentai would pick up Turn-A Gundam (I doubt sales of it would support a dub --- which, if I'm correct in that, rules out Funimation picking it up).

considering that some shows that sentai released on DVD only, like NyanKoi, and later re-released it on blu-ray with a dub, anything is possible.

Compared to the older Bandai titles Funi picked up, it looks like Sentai really got dregs aside from Scryed and Big O. Didn't most of these shows sell pretty badly even in "better times"? Well, I did blind-buy and like Argentosoma and Infinite Ryvius, but I have to think the older segment of the fandom already had their chance at them, and the "must have shiny new anime" younger segment isn't going to be interested.

I believe you're right. Big-O would be something to talk about if they got the BluRays, but it's still nowhere near Bebop or Escaflowne.

As a *massive* fan of Big O, this is great news.

If it could get a BD, it would totally make my day.

Yeah. That would be cool I'd definitely be up for The Girl Who Leapt Through Space if it got a dub and BD release since I passed on it at the time due to being sub-only DVD hoping it would get BDs since it was coming out on BD in Japan. Smile

I always figured it was a giant scheme to create the best tomato soup in the world.

Well, I bailed on The Girl Who Leaped Through Space after two volumes, but I'd probably bite if they did a Bluray release. On the other hand, I'd probably double dip on a Bluray release of Big O.

Meh. Out of these, Big O and Kurokami are the only ones that I have any interest in. With Big O, I already have it on DVD and don't know if I really love it enough to upgrade to Blu-ray (if that happens). And then Kurokami only holds a mild interest in me and if they don't do a Blu-ray that includes Japanese with English subtitles, I'll be passing just like I did with Bandai.

I wish they would have rescued the first season of K-ON! and mentioned what was going on with Zero's Familiar. Are they seriously going to put out season four without the second or third?

That was from a news post from Jan 2012. Was there ever any update that I missed?? Does the question ever come up at their panels?

That's probably as good as my theory.

Definitely getting Big O, Betterman, Brain Powerd, and Zegapain if I have the money. Wonder if Zegapain comes with the movie.
I already have OverMan King Gainer and the Japanese artbox...and the revoltech..., its a great show, in an over the top, crazy sort of way. It never really made sense but, hey, I definitely recommend checking it out.

Of course, the titles Sentai has picked up have been much longer out of print, while some of the shows Funimation picked up are still readily available from a lot of retailers.

Not to mention, there are a lot of fans that just missed these shows the first time around, despite the fact that they were anime fans around the time they were being released. I started collecting anime in 2002 and the majority of my exposure was from trailers on DVDs, so it was a few years before I bought any titles from Bandai. By that point, many of these were out of print or hard to find.

True, they may not compare to Cowboy Bebop, but I'm willing to bet the licenses were a lot cheaper and will require much lower sales to break even. Not to mention, they have a couple shows like Kurokami and The Girl Who Leapt Through Space, who have never had complete collections, and Sacred Seven, which has never had a physical release here at all. Kurokami hasn't even been released here on bluray with the Japanese dub.

So Funi got the "big seller, mainstream" shows while Sentai got the "smaller underrated, cult-followed" shows. Well that sounds just like what those two companies would go for.

So now, did Funi blow their licensing budget on just the top three shows? If they did, guess we won't see them licensing anymore simulcast for the rest of the year...let's hope not.
