*sigh* I guess we won't see any of the current CLAMP animes on Canadian TV, since YTV doesn't seem to want to work with FUNi for some reason.

Unless they can prove me wrong! Very Happy

Shocked

Geez! With the inclusion of these CLAMP titles (though it didn't say anything about the upcoming xxxHolic TV series) FUNimation has one hell of an anime selection since their DBZ days. Man, I really curious who's going to dub these! Very Happy

Can it really be called "exclusive" when they sent the letter to the one fansub group stating they had those series, thereby letting the rest of us know as well? Anime smile

Yes it can, considering the announcement wasn't made anywhere else. The cease & desist was not a formal announcement, it was a cease & desist.

Has the xxxHOLiC Movie even hit R2 DVD yet? Or even the Tsubasa movie?

FUNi lost a LOT of respect from me with the stunt they pulled with the C&D letter about series that hadn't been announced as liscensed. Solty Rei, Tsubasa, and one other I can't recall. Seriously, that was....erugh.

Just because something wasn't announced doesn't mean it wasn't licensed.

FUNi seems to have gotten the golden goose for 2006. CLAMP is always a hot item and there doesn't seem to be anything that is getting as much pomp as Holic and TC.

(Is this where we restart the "Who Voices Sakura" debate again? Razz )

Personally, I'm hoping that Redshift Productions, who uses West Coast actors, does the dubbing so that way the actors who worked on other CLAMP animes dubbed by Bang Zoom! Entertainment (which seems to have the most frequent crossovers like Cardcaptor Sakura, X, and Chobits) can reprise their roles. That means Kari Wehlgren as Sakura, Mona Marshall as Syaoran, etc.

Though the possibility of this happening seems quite likely. FUNimations has faced this situation before with Sakura Taisen: Sumire and Tenchi Muyo! GXP, both of which had prequels recorded by West Coast studios and were both dubbed by Redshift Productions with most of the original cast reprising their roles. Hopefully, FUNimations won't be like Media Blasters with the new Ah! My Goddess.

I REALLY hope that the dub for Tsubasa will be a combination of Redshift Productions and FUNi's own VAs. I mean FUNi is able to reclaim the original VAs for Angelic Layer since it's done by ADV.

And just to note, Bang Zoom! also did Magic Knights Rayearth. Wink

I love Tsubasa, and I know XXXholic is supposed to be even better, so I am really happy. I hope they keep the XXXholic/Tsubasa double feature on one DVD, or release them seperately very cheap. Rolling Eyes

Okay, because one individual in Funimation happened to make the error of mentioning unannounced (but licensed) titles, the whole company loses your respect? For your information, it's entirely possible that the person who disclosed that information was NOT supposed to leak it, and for all we know may have gotten in trouble for it.

Besides that, from a legal standpoint Funimation was entirely in the right. From a fan standpoint, I think that Shinsen was frankly incredibly irresponsible for then taking that information that had been let slip and broadcasting it to the net. I personally have heard information let slip by employees or such of anime companies, and I've kept such information secret out of respect if not for the company individually, then the industry as a whole. I thought Funimation was rather tactless in that case, but I think Shinsen was even more so.

Back on topic, I wonder if Funimation plans to air Tsubasa on Adult Swim like they did with Fullmetal Alchemist? And similarly, who's directing the dub? Since that can be just as big a deal as who's doing the voices as far as quality goes. Mike McFarland has commented on his journal that he's working on Trinity Blood, so I'm guessing maybe not him...

I agree, this one C&D letter should not be used to determine the respectability of Funimation. Maybe it was an accident or maybe it is a new way of doing business, we don't really know.

I disagree. Shinsen received an official notice and passed it along, as others have done. At the time I don't think there was any reason for them to believe that something "had been let slip".

Not a big fan of Tsubasa (watched the first 7-8 subs) but wouldn't mind seeing it (or any other recent series) on AS.

Don't know anything about XXXHOLiC. Does the XXX mean it can't be shown on TV? Wink

The X is silent. Laughing (No, seriously, in Japanese it's kana-fied as ホリック, or "Holic.")

And as Tsubasa's moody/spooky sister series, it totally kicks that generic shounen adventure in the trash. Razz

The title sounds sketchy, but there's, aside from a few snide jokes, absolutely nothing racy/raunchy about xxxHolic. Part of the story involves Yuuko, a witch who grant's peoples 'wishes', so to speak. In return, they have to give her something equal in value, etc. etc. etc. When you read through a few volumes, you realize she's actually (usually) ends up trying to help people overcome habits or break addictions - thus why the series is called xxxHolic. And 'xxx' can mean many negative things beside pornogragphy in Japan, I think...I've seen in on the side of alochol bottles, for example.
