It shouldn't be smaller than the rest. I resized all of them so that they would have the same shortest length. However, I didn't realize that this image had been circulated before. I've sent the entrant an email probing into it; thanks for letting me know! |

uhh... so you can win a consolation prize for ripping off a picture that's been on the net for years? cause that's pretty much what Jane did. i'm almost 100% certain she didn't make this.
btw, why is the column called "Thinpack Shakedown" when none of those are exactly "thinpacks" Last edited by v1cious on Tue Jan 31, 2006 11:06 am; edited 3 times in total |

I can also confirm this. I've seen that picture online before too. It was at least a year ago. I think I saw it on Ebaum's World. Last edited by Jerseymilk on Tue Jan 31, 2006 12:19 pm; edited 1 time in total |

-__- If you'd bother reading what I just posted, I said I was looking into it. I'd never seen the picture before. Thus, why I'm, like I said, looking into it. And it's called thinpak showdown because last week they were almost all thinpaks, and I made the jpg before I finalized this week's list. |

One of my fav DS games:
METROID PINBALL! It absolutely rocks. If you like pinball or Metroid this is an absolute MUST HAVE. I have played it to death and back. Castlevania is also awesome. These are by far the best two games I have picked up for the system, although Nintendogs was fun for a little while. Blegh I also hate it that all other companies thinpaks or boxsets are so expensive. Which is why I have like, 14 or 15 ADV sets and very few from any other company. If they want to charge almost full price (as in if you bought the singles) fine, but I am not going to support it. Can't afford to! |

Since people are throwing around their fav DS, I might as well join in too.
Mario Kart for pure fact that it's fun to play. Peach use to be the only driver I use to play with, but now I moved on Dry Bones and ROB in this version, but the addition of pick your kart for your driver adds a nice customization that wasn't really needed, but does make alittle more fun. The mission are pretty good, but too bad I have a hard time with Drift Turbo-thing, which is one of the reason why I like Dry Bones handling. [quoteIt’s simply two very gentle stories about straight men who fall in love with other men, only to discover that man hole is just as good as any other hole.
Did I read that right? "Straight" men falling in love with other men? What the hell...how is this yaoi now? |

As always, another great set of reviews from BD, specially the hentai reviews, Bamboo should have an all hentai review series, the wit quotient in the reviews would be far better than the hentai itself could ever be.
NB: GROSS on the man hole line, but it was still a really good line. On a side note, why do so many people love Saikano so much, I found it terminally dull spoiler[after the third episode its just: build up a nice loveable character then kill them in a pointless, heartbreaking way. After the third time, I was just watching it to see how far they would ride that pony, and (unluckily) they rode it to the bitter end]. I think Irya of the Sky, Summer of UFO was better on the relation with the ultimate weapon front, Now & Then Here & There was better at being manipulative (without being a blatant wrist slitting emo trip like Saikano, though it comes close at times), and Blue Gender was far better at killing off characters spoiler[you never knew who was going to get it and how, with Saikano you knew if someone was in the episode more than a minute they were gone in the next episode].
|

Did I read that right? "Straight" men falling in love with other men? What the hell...how is this yaoi now?
Yellow-gay partner with a penchant for boyish types deliberately picks partners who aren't his type falls for his latest partner Gravitation-Shuichi never really thought about his orientation until after he fell for Yuki. Yuki had his share of women. Only the Ring Finger-seemingly straight boy pursued by another who isn't necessarily gay. Level C-Mizuki isn't prorayed as prefering guys. Kazoumi describes himself as willing to have sex anyone who'll let him & lines up Mizuki after his latest girlfriend threw him out. Kizuna-Kei fell for Ranmaru as something beautiful that just happened to be male. No indication he wants anyone else. Ranmaru's biggest insecurity issue is the idea Kei will leave him for a "real" relationship with a female. Lies & Kisses-Gay businessman picks up pretty thing at a bar-pretty thing not only isn't gay, it's his long, lost half-brother. (results of blood-test pending) Embracing Love-2 porn stars(didn't think I'd like this one) Both have had their share of women before this relationship. How is it NOT yaoi? Yaoi isn't gay porn. Yaoi is romance on the hentai side while BL is content to hold hands & kiss. As someone who pretty much preorders all the yaoi she can find as soon as it's listed I can tell you it's pretty much par for the course for at least one or both guys in yaoi to be straight & just happen to fall for a guy. Sensitive Pornograph was a bit of a shock to be as graphic as it is. Usually we get outlines(Level C) or Boku no's weird video game perspective on all of the action or kissing & almost there nudity, but not quite(Kizuna). The stories are both sweet. (No Blue Wolves butterballs. Whew!) The pet-sitter obviously isn't gay & there's no indication the Rabbit he was sitting(on) was before the sadistic landlord. The situation reminded me most of Tramps Like Us. It seemed Rabbit easily could be the dogboy in that manga. The manga-ka story was interesting considering how so many manga artists are somewhat faceless--if they want to be seen, they allow pictures, but they can remain unknown with ease. Although the nagging hole in the plot is someone would have spoken up that it was a dude & not a dudette. Everyone says she'll sleep with anyone yet no one will say she's a he? (Japan has no Enquirer/Star-type tabloids?) |

Another notible thinpak from Geneon is Last Exile, which Bamboo did display the correct picture for (although I'm not sure about the price. It is consideribly less than displayed. Click on the link, and you can find that the prices are around half the displayed price). I had ordered it during the 33% Geneon sale ($66! =D), and while I was initially dissapointed to learn that it was a thinpak, and that I wouldn't be able to fill my original DVD box, the quality of the thinpak almost certainly makes up for it. Sure, it cost a bit more than the ADV packs, but the difference is absolutely worth the money. Each of the discs themselves are in their original state. The first disc of the set even claims "Pioneer Entertainment", complete with old trailers for long past stuff, as well as all the extras that were on each disc. The only thing you sacrifice really is the original cases, and the box, but the thinpak cases acctually feature an entirely different set of high quality artwork on both the front, back, and insides. Overtime, I can see Geneon will likely be shifting most of its series into thinpaks. It's soooo worth it though. Anyways, I did like this edition of Shelf Life. I mean, a little less depth than normal, but the quantity most surely makes up for it. =P I was just a tad bit suprised to even see Ikkitousen's presense, I must admit. =P And yes. Nintendo's customer service does rock indeed. I remember I once lost the battery cover to my limited edition Platnium GBA a few years ago. I was browsing the site looking for replacement battery covers, but I couldn't find the limited platnium cover. Before giving up and just ordering a normal cover, I called Nintendo, asking if they offered platnium covers at all. Much to my suprise, not only was the customer representitive very polite, and not only did they acctually have the covers, but the man completely took my word for it and offered to send me the replacement cover for free, without even asking about warrenties or anything. Truly awesome. Of course, that's also why I have a bias for Nintendo stuff. =D As for DS games, from what I've bought, you can already attest to Mario Kart DS (online play! online play! friend code! =P), but the only other game I've bought thus far, Sonic Rush, is absolutely refreshing and amazing. It's by far the most enjoyible 2D Sonic game since Sonic & Knuckles + Sonic 3. While I've heard that people think the soundtrack is hit and miss, I absolutely adore it. It's completely different from the normal Sonic music of recent, and is probably the only Sonic music I would ever acctually dance to. It's a relatively short 10 hour burn, but it's amusing none the less. As for other ones I've at least tried out, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is quite fun. If you don't mind GBA games, then I'd super highly reccomend any of the Fire Emblem games, as they are absolutely absurdly addictive (If you're anything like me though, I wouldn't start one unless you have like... 100+ hours to burn). I'd might acctually go for that contest. Is it ok if I'll be legal age in 2 days? =P |

Actually, Yaoi would cover both the porn side and the non-porn romance just like Yuri covers both the porn and romance between two females. Oh, and if a boy is making love to another boy, he is NOT straight. At best, he is Bi. He may have had female lovers before, but if he is loving/sleeping with other men, he is either gay or bi, not straight. |

Yay! Bamboo, I'd like to join the chorus to sing your praise. I love reading your column. And now I won a prize!
Two fun facts about those bananas: 1. I took the picture in Tokyo's controversial Yasukuni Shrine during Mitama Matsuri. 2. They were delicious. Oh, and I have a question. Can I enter again? |

This is not true. Just because someone makes out/has sex with someone of the same gender, it does not make them gay or bi. It's very possible to be bicurious or just experimental, yet still identy as straight.
