This thread will be the official thread to discuss Manga Magazine's current and future issue. Manga Magazine is a free magazine that Tokyopop offer so you can preview their many manga.

The Winter 2006 Manga Magazine has arrive. If you haven't got it, you can sign up for a free subscription here

This season's magazine looks thicker. The cover looks shiny too. Still the same mixture of OEL and Manga. But it looks like TP is improving with the magazine.
I haven't had time to check the content because I have an essay to write, but will come back and post comment on it when I get through it. Kami Kaze looks interesting.

I believe I've already made one. And if they're not going to put it in stores like they promised they would they should change back the name it's silly.

I just got my Winter 2006 copy today. Unfortunately, the cover was somewhat damaged from being sent through the mail, but since it's a free publication I'm not complaining too much.

Let's see...I liked the Fruits Basket chapter, but that's the only actual manga that piqued my interest. On the OEL/Korean side of things, I enjoyed the Sorcerers & Secretaries preview and the Sea Princess Azuri preview for the OEL titles and Warcraft for the Korean titles. Still not sure how I feel about Ark Angels, but I'll probably check it out more at a later point in time.

There are still several things I need to read, but overall I think this was a well-done publication. I like the editorial-type comments on all the manga/manhwa/OEL previews.

I got my copy yesterday as well. I like how they gave out Valentine's Day cards the day after Valentine's Day Rolling Eyes It seems like they're using thicker paper for the cover but it still got bent in the mail. I've only read some of it but I already went out and bought Sorceror's & Secreties that was uncharacteristic of me.

and oh yes the Beat Crusaders interview was the best part.

How is it? I like her art, and even though her story in the Flight anthology was only so-so, I've been thinking about picking it up.

The first half of the book is stronger than the second half. I really don't know what I think of it yet I'm going to have to read it over again this weekend. The main reason I got it was because I liked the artwork, it's kinda Love Roma-ish. Plus there's only going to be 2 volumes.

I was wondering why TP doesn't have the answers to the crossword up on their site, like it says at the bottom. (This is the Fruits Basket issue released yesterday.) I don't read all of their books, so I was hoping to fill in the rest. Sadly, I can't even find the answers while scrolling through the manga summaries.

I wonder why they wasted almost 50page of preview for Fruits Basket, when everybody that's interested in the title is already getting it or plan to. I guess they really want to push this manga to sell even more. I would prefer if they focus on other title, or maybe add more pages to Dragaon Head or Kami Kaze.

Also the OEL preview were disappointing too. There's just something about the art doesn't seem like it's developed. The abadoned was the only title that look pretty unique but they skip pages and makes you wondering what the hell is going on.

Overall it's okay.

Is it worth signing up for? I know it's free but I want to know if the content is decent.

Most of the OEL artists I've seen have exellent art, it just doesn't really come through in their comics. I think the real problem is the fact that TP puts time constraints on what are, for the most part, first time comicbook artists. This isn't Japan where you have five assistants to do the grunt work.
Back to the topic, I think the magazine is interesting and it is free, but most of the prieviews I read are pretty mediocre (no real suprise coming from TP.) I pick it up if I see it but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

They already have Dragon Head and Kami Kaze manga players on the tokyopop website and they don't have Fruits Basket. I think they just didn't want to piss off the fans because of the new quarterly release schedule. And that was a BS excuse they had for why they're doing it. Fruits Basket may have caught up to Japan (don't know don't care) but that leaves out an explantion for nearly all their other titles. They're 22 volumes behind in BECK I want to see them explain that one.

Easy: they can't sell them fast enough. Right now most titles simply don't do well on anything faster than a quarterly release schedule. As much as you want to complain about Beck taking too long, it doesn't change the fact that people aren't buying it fast enough. Look at how many title Tokyopop is currently releasing. Most of those aren't particuarly popular and bookstores can't sell them fast enough, therefore get discouraged.

Of course, but I would like to hear it straight from the horses' mouth. Kingdom Hearts sold well and they still decided not to take it off quarterly schedule. I feel that they don't trust the readers to know what's going on I hate when companies think I'm stupid.

Hate to break it to you, but that's how these companies operate. Can you remember a company announcing that they had cancelled a title outside Super Manga Blast? To be honest, the change to quarterly is hardly something to get angry about and I don't really think TP needed to explain themselves. For a title like Kindom Hearts that's only four volumes there's no point in rushing it out.
