I just got the box set and watched it for the first time. I remember when I was little i watched five minuites and didn't like it, but i did a marathon and loved it. It was very difficult to understand. How many times does it take watching through the series to understand it. I got the basic jist, but the thing with lains sister got me confused. There are just so many wierd things about that show. Nevertheless it was beautifully done and turned out to be great.

I have actually only seen the first disc, but I love it. Its really really weird, but makes just enough sense to make me want to watch more. As far as I am, it's done really well, and has a plot that makes you think.

The music rocks, too

It took me about five times through to understand Lain completely and even then I had to look at a series synopsis online. spoiler[I think the thing with the sister is she had a nervous breakdown... ] Lain is also one of my all time favorite series as well because the whole ambience created by the music and the semi-freakish visuals leaves me in sort of a trance like state. Not to mention the opening is one of the best openings I have ever seen, period.

I do have a question though; spoiler[Is that really Lain's dad in the last episode at the table? I think her real dad works for Tachibana general labs right? So is he god in the end to Lain's Christ...? Because that cannot possibly be her same father...]

I've been thinking about picking this title up, Best Buy has the Geneon Signature Box Set For $40, but haven't really hear too much about it. I have Texhnolyze and every single DVD had a sticker that said "from the creators of serial experiment lain", so thats the main reason I've been wanting to watch it. I remember in the TechTV days that it aired on Anime Unleashed, I haven't picked it up cause I've been hoping they air it again.

One of the wierd charictars I liked was the spoiler[god of the wired charictor ] that spoiler[went bizerk ] in the last two eppisodes He is a very mysterious charictor and was fun up until he spoiler[got inclosed in the matereals]

One thing I dont get is what was the deal with him, was he just an illusion of Lain or was he real?

B.E.S.M. (Big Eyes Small Mouth) RPG has a source book for LAIN. Most of it is episode guide and character information.

It's an interesting read.
It also helps clear some issues up.

I also got the OST for the night club features in lain. Serious DUFF DUFF music there.

I've heard that it takes a couple of run throughs to really understand it. I haven't seen it myself yet, but i've asked around and looked into it. I plan on getting it soon.

I found a good website dedicated to lain. It clears up a few questions about lain as well as visuals and others. I suggest you complete the series before going into the "mystery" section, but its up to you

I only own vol. 1& 2; but deeply love the show. The Cyberia Mix CD is awesome; and can even stand up with the works of Daft Punk and Dan the Automator. It's #2 on my list of films that I want adpated into a live-action film.

I actually read the book before I ever watched the series (I eventually imported the box set, one of my first anime purchases and probably my first import) and it's pretty good, although for some odd reason the book doesn't mention Konaka once.
