Yea, seriously. Isn't there a bigger market for people (mainly guys) who are into girl-on-girl action?

@__@ It's great someone's paying attention to manga and I guess I was a bit surprised Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, or Dragonball Z didn't come out of his mouth. I'd love to attend any sort of convention with anime or manga, but I wonder if I have the ability to take a bunch of fangirls. It's not that I can't stand anyone who likes shounen-ai by default, but I've spent just a tad too much time with some really hyper girls who beat you over the head with it.

What part of Texas do YOU live in?
In any case, I guess as long as the put it late in the night (so people won't freak out about the porn during the day) I'll give it a shot. Other then that I'm quite indifferent. o.o

Yall are the grimeyest people I have seen in a good while. Tell "Peter" or whoever that I already had a lock on that nearly two days prior.
"Oh well why didn't you email the article to animenewsnetwork.com's newsroom?"
Because I had mine about two hours after they posted it and since you guys had record time reporting that Howl had lost (9 seconds) I figured that you already would have been on it. Site your sources and give credit where credit is due.

Amen to that! |
Thats true, although I am on the side that doesn't like these shows. I really hope it doesn't give anime a bad name... again. I agree with Necros Antiquor, although I wouldn't go as far to call it "gay porn". I still don't understand America's obsession with homosexuality. I'm starting to think that being straight is wrong and will soon be frowned upon...
|
Oh, I don't care whether a person's a yaoi fan or not, I just appreciate that he/she is being understanding and not insisting that yaoi be banned just because they don't like it. Heck, I really dislike hentai, but I tolerate it because I want other people to tolerate my tastes. However, I don't think that America has an "obsession with homosexuality." Rather, it's a combination of recent gay-rights legal battles and the release of Brokeback that have suddenly pushed this topic to the forefront of American minds.
Edit: What happened to yaya-san's post? I swear it was in this thread, cause I quoted from it! |
I guess my post was deleted because I had quoted zebbox (his post was edited by the moderator)?

This is...kind of unexpected. And you know some people are going to watch it and just add "gay porn" to the list of incorrect anime perceptions, alongside "it's cartoon porn for perverts" and "all anime is for kids, like Pokemon." Hey, I guess I should be glad it's getting any mainstream exposure, but there are going to be idiots who will think those things. |
We in the UK have still not recovered from when our Channel 4 introduced the masses to Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend movie as your typical example of "anime". We've been lableled with "watches cartoon porn" ever since. So stand by for the "watches gay cartoon porn" label coming to your ears soon.

I was joking about it being illegal to be straight in America... where did you get that "3%" statistic from? I'd prefer proof from a reliable source, than just taking your word for it.

Actually, it already exists. Be Beautiful's releasing the samurai yaoi "Midaresomenishi" later this year. Gives a whole new meaning to "hot samurai action," don't it? |
Hahaha... Hot Samurai Action. So will it be like Brokeback?

Just so you guys don't think I'm some kind of anti-homosexuality "activist" (I couldn't think of a better word), I don't like "lesbian" or "straight" anime love stories either. Just not my kind of show/story.

I know homosexuality in Japan was huge during the age of the samurai. I mean a lot of men pumped with testosterone, facing death at any moment, primal needs, it was OZ up in that bitch.

Oh, my bad.
As for the "3%" thing, I found it in a CNN article from 2004.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/10/14/asexual.study/index.html
The article said:
Quote: | That response level is close to the percentage of gay people in the population, which is around three percent, |
It may have changed a bit over the last 2 years.

There's no need for Ang Lee to step in- Japan has already had its own "Brokeback" movie out for quite awhile now. It's the 1999 movie Taboo (see amazon link below). Unlike Brokeback though, this movie focuses more on male-male desire and suggestiveness than an actual relationship, IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot more Japanese movies that cover the topic of samurai homosexual love, but this is the only one released in the US that I know of.
