The "collecting" funds link is broken. Did you mean to link http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9 ?

It's sort of like the Little Witch Academia 2 Kickstarter. Part of it is funded outside of Kickstarter. Whereas the Kickstarter for LWA2 was only for extra material, the Kickstarter for this is used to cover the expenses for producing the game that they can't cover because the previous funding is not enough. Basically we're only giving them a fraction (as to how big that fraction is, I don't know) of the overall budget.

Video games can cost millions of dollars to make. Most video games these days look like major animated films and would cost around as much to make, maybe even more with licensing songs, weapons, etc.

And the fans get what they want, a not Megaman knock off game made by former makers of Megaman and has nothing to do with Capcom who owns Megaman. {I can't say "Megaman" any more than they can}

Quote:
Although the protagonist Beck of Mighty No. 9 looks similar to the titular hero of CAPCOM's Megaman franchise, "it's 100%, top-to-bottom an all-new property that shares no characters, code, fiction, or anything else besides its genre with Megaman." The staff emphasizes, "So while some of us are ex-employees of CAPCOM, and all of us are big fans of their games, this project has nothing to do with CAPCOM or Megaman."

See?

You know, he completely doesn't look like Megaman either. No, sorry, I was thinking of Megavolt from Darkwing Duck, they should get sued.

And he's named "Beck". Next thing you know, it's going to be "Mongolian Chop Squad".

This was one of my worries about "kickstarting" creative projects. Let's see what else can go wrong when the fans get what they want...

It's not just about "creative" projects. He created Megaman and his recent life work that he cared for the most was basically grounded by Capcom simply because they wanted to trash it to prove that he can't always have what he wants with them and that they're in charge... despite the fan backlash. What Capcom did was pretty tragic, considering how long they waited until taking action.

So he went somewhere else to finish what he started, albeit in a roundabout way. If he had started from scratch with a completely new concept, the risk would be high AND he wouldn't be able to work on his biggest passion. This way, he continues what he loves and the fans get a piece of what they wanted in the first place. He's not sacrificing anything for the sake of the fans. This was HIS decision.
