Why are we celebrating? Because Naruto is a mainstream shounen anime that's been popular with young kids on TV, along the lines of Pokémon, Yugioh, Shaman King and One Piece. Do you see any of those getting dual-language uncut releases? With the manga, TV run, other merchandise, and the edited DVD sales, I'd imagine that Viz doesn't need sales from hardcore fans to make Naruto a financial success.
As for the honorific debate, isn't it pretty much a given that any company aside from Funimation will not include them in subtitles? I don't see why there's a need to ask about them for this release, and it's not like they're too relevant. Maybe they are for a series like Ai yori aoshi, but all the relationships in Naruto stay pretty much constant, so there's not much difference between Naruto saying "Sakura-chan!" in Japanese and "Sakura!" in English. Besides, they already leave "sensei" in the dub since English viewers will understand it in a ninja/martial arts context. That's pretty much good enough for this series.
Plus, if you understand Japanese well enough to hear name suffixes and know how they work, you can probably get them well enough from the audio anyway. I like seeing them in subtitles just for "mood" purposes, but it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.
[EDIT: Martial arts, not "marital," Embarassed although if there were schools on how to perfect your marriage through training, maybe the world would be a better place...and in response to later discussion on this thread, "~ttebayo" has actually grown on me a bit.]

Yes,; I think we've established that in the long run, it is not an important question, but since when was it a problem to ask questions? It's not as if he was saying he wouldn't buy it if there wasn't honorifics.

"In short, fans have nothing to fear; the Naruto release they’ve been praying for has been delivered."

What was there to pray for? It was almost a gurantee that Viz would release uncut Naruto DVDs in the U.S. Most anime companies do these days and Narutards were only whining about it because they wanted to use another excuse to prove why they think fansubs are better than an official release so they won't have to buy the DVDs when they are released and as already stated, you can bet that most Narutards will still find something to complain about the Naruto DVDs. I myself will definetly buy these as soon as I can. I love Naruto and I would love to have the official DVDs as part of my anime collection. I'm also curious to see more of the dub because I only got to see one or two episodes of the edited dub and didn't really get a chance to judge the quality of the VAs fairly for myself. So, the edited dub has all the same dialog as the uncut dub? Is the amount of swearing in the uncut dub the same as the amount of swearing in the edited dub?

They re-recorded some dialogue from what I remember.

Oh, and the subs use "Believe it", but if you're bitching about that then stop using the internet.

I remember finding a brief article about the uncuts that had Maile Flanagan talking about dialogue changes, it's some "edgier" stuff like instead of a simple "I'll kill you," it's "I'll rip your throat out."

Edit: I found the article; I posted it in this thread.

I have a question. Does spoiler[Orochimaru end up being like a Naraku? In the way that they, the heroes, just fight his minions or does he actually get beat?] If the fillers are as bad as people claim, then I would like to stop buying the series and have them on my shelf with a sense of satisfaction. I hate having DVDs on my shelf that don´t tell a whole story. Does that make sense?

You will be able to skip the fillers pretty easily when they come up. Assuming all of the box sets have 13 episodes, the 11th set (episodes 131-144) will be the last one you need and then you can skip the next 5 sets (at least). That's what I'll do when I get around to getting the Naruto sets.

I hope you´re right. I hope the releases don´t pass the TV broadcast so I can see what I´m buying cause there has to be people out there who don´t mind the Naruto filler.

I still hate the 13 episode count because this is such a slow moving series. But I guess the price is decent.

Hehe you got more chance of a fansub adding curse words then Viz would do.

Also I do really hate Narutotards because they claim to hate his catchphrase when he says the same thing in Japanese. So they should have put the catchphrase in the subtitles just to annoy the naurtotards. I really have to wonder how many "Belive It" catchphrase haters there would be if the fansubbers had translated it.

Also they claim he is whiny when he is supposed to be whiny and sound like a girl. Ask me the dub actors captured the Japanese vas performance down to the letter.

But Narutotards don't understand a single thing about how Japanese actually pronounce things or how they convey emotion in their voices.

Dattebayo, you know, that thing Naruto says in Japanese, has zero meaning. "Believe it!" is like Kenshin's "That it is." in English. You better take something for that belly ache. Yeah, it bugs the heck out of me, even more lately, but I block it out, which also applies to those that complain about it.

You know, these days two types of posts really get a chuckle out of me, mostly for how ridiculuos they sound put into right context:
So a series has been released uncut and unedited, why are we celebrating?

Cause not too long ago if you wanted a high quality anime like Battle of The Planets, you got it in a horrifically butchered and edited form, to the point where it only minimally resembled it's original Japanese broadcast. It's also one more step in getting rid of the Fansub Only Otaku, the anime world's equivelant to the Comic Book Guy.

I refuse to buy anime because it is art, and art should be free.

Everytime I see one of these babies (espiecally in context to a Shonen series such as Naruto) I almost die laughing. First off, I'm gonna say something we already know: Naruto is not art. I'm gonna say that one more time, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, NARUTO. IS. NOT. ART.
Am I speaking the collective consciousness or am I some wacko on a message board speaking gibberish? Do I deserve to go to anime hell or simply ignored for stating the obvious? Don't get me wrong, I love Naruto. I buy the manga, watch the show on TV, have a small collection of those admittedly useless headbands, hell, I've even ventured into freakin Hot Topic just for various Naruto apparel. But do I think it's a masterpiece on the same level of other related works such as Evangelion? Not a chance (yes I realize it's redundant to answer your own retorrical question in a sentence, bear with me). It's a damn fine show, but if the world is ending and I have only one chance to save something to help eduacte new civilations on previous ones, I'm grabbing 1984.

Ok, I read the review, but I am still confused. I renembered reading an interview with Naruto's American VA about how they were going to change some lines around to more violent lines, such as "I'll beat you" would turn into something like "I'll cut your throat open". Is the english in this DVD basically the same thing on Toonami except the fact that it's uncut, or do they really change some dialouge as well?

Hasn't this question already been asked twice before and answered? I thought for sure that I asked this question which was answered by the posters....

Art is subjective. Naruto could be considered art. Just not very good art by some. I would never presume to define art. Most celebrated modern art in my opinion looks like paint splatters. But I would not say it is not art. For example I think Evangelion is crap without merit. But it could still be considered art by some. I actually chuckle and think the statements foolish for another reason. Where did people get the idea that art should be free? That's the part I think is stupid.

What I'm still trying to figure out, after looking at this thread, is if someone actually said that? I mean, was it just a kneejerk reaction or something?

I really hope no one said art is free because as an art major I don't know how I'll be paying off all those loans Shocked

On topic, waiting on this bad boy to come to me from deepdiscountdvd. While I would love it if they stuck a whole season in a set, I prefer this much more than having to buy like 3-4 DVDs at $20-30 a pop. That and my shelf is much more content
