This thread is for discussing import videogames from Japan. So
do you import games at all? Why? Why not? What determines
whether or not a game is worth importing? and so on.

As for me I have only imported two games; Evangelion 64 and
the Air visual novel for the playstation portable. Both of these are
based on my two favorite anime and have a low language barrier.

I've been interested in importing other games, I think it would be
interesting to see how much a non-anime related game would be.

Well, there you go. Please commence posting!

WEll, I've been a big fan of the Tales series for years, and I started importing games in that series in 2009, starting with Tales of VS. Most games in that series are japan-only, and I was told that most of the JP-only games were better than the ones released in America, and whoever told me that was damn right.

Imported 4 others since then. I try to import at least one Tales game a year, be it newly-released ones, or old ones I've never played.

In terms of understanding them, though I always wanted to learn the language, I didn't start studying Japanese until I first imported a game. Since then I've kept up with the studies, and I like to think I'm pretty damn good with reading it--no trouble understanding gameplay mechanics and story elements for me, FTMP.

I've recently dumped enough money at collecting almost of all of the released Super Robot Wars franchise, mostly the Playstation, GBA/DS, and PSP releases. Once they announce release dates for 2nd OG and Z2 Rebirth Chapter, I will be right there demanding it, cash in hand. I've got my eye on scooping up the ACE series too, maybe look into G Gen stuff as well.

What can I say. I LOVE ROBOTS.

last year i bought like 40 japan only imports.
haven't imported in almost all of 2011.
bought mostly fighters.
only for the ps1 and ps2
things from naruto ultimate ninja 5...to kenichi world's mightiest disciple...fate unlimited codes...etc.
fighters have such a low language barrier...but i did get 2 action games.
one was shinobido imashime and the other was sengoku basara 2 heroes.
there was a tiny bit of a barrier at first but you overcome it easily.
importing was the smartest thing i've ever done.
will be importing for wii, and psp in the future.

I guess only a few fans import japanese games but the ones who
do really import. I think I'm holding back a little due to how
much money they cost.
