Huh, interesting. Dunno if it's a good or bad thing, but I wonder if this'll open doors for more western collaboration in anime, like when Stan Lee worked with Studio Bones to make Heroman (not quite my cup of tea, but an interesting work nevertheless). Or do they only plan to produce Japanese works for the foreseeable future? Anime has gotten kinda culturally stagnant of late, just my opinion, seems like maybe it could stand to explore new ideas these days.

Indeed, who needs Madoka, Fullmetal Alchemist, Tiger and Bunny, and AnoHana when we can have Scooby Doo, Ed, Edd and Eddy and Adventure Time
But in all seriousness, I'm not sure where people are getting these 'Western produced' things from. These are being made by Warner Japan. Yes, Warner Brothers is an American company, technically, but there's branches in various countries. If it's just Warner Japan doing it then it's still Japanese people; just look at the credits and production listings, all Japanese names.

Hahaha, you mean Drossel from Disney Japan's Fireball, right? Y'know, for a Japanese-created work about a post-apocalyptic robot duchess, it completely had a Disney vibe to it.

Exactly what to be expected as well. These companies might have "Japan" in their logo, but the company's reputation and policy is in the first name.
