NEWS: Australia's Madman Ent: DBZ Kai's Buu Saga Should Come in 2014

The degree to which it alters the dialogue often alters the characters and scenes by misrepresenting what they're about, what their motivations and personalities are like. For instance, Son Goku comes across as more together, more intelligent, and a bit preachy in the English dub. Toriyama envisioned Son Goku as a simple, unsophisticated bumpkin whose main motivation in life is fighting strong guys and getting stronger.

And the music is certainly related to the tone of the show and scenes in it. For instance, the scene in which Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time. Whereas the original, Shunsuke Kikuchi piece used creates the atmosphere of sheer terror about the transformation, the Faulconer track tries to make it seem like we should all be very impressed by how cool and mystical the transformation is.

And as for the voice acting, the Japanese version is filled to the brim with celebrated veterans, many of them celebrated for a years before they were in the cast of DB or DBZ. Funimation's English dub? Uh, well, it was "learn as you go" for many of them, and I personally felt they didn't learn much.

But one version is the show as it was envisioned and the other kind of... isn't.

Um, that's the whole point and very reasonable hence why there should be no complaints there. The audience should be impressed by how cool and mystical the transformation is. They can also get a little terror out of, though I don't know why considering Goku is not a villain here.

Because that scene was supposed to represent Goku giving in to his rage and his more animalistic Saiyan nature. It was supposed to have an ominous air to it.
