I remember having read the book in primary school. It'll be good to see how it is adapted.

Nice. I expect this to be a hit in Germany, as I don't know anyone around here who hasn't adored Lindgren's stories as a child.

It falls in the same as Heidi and similar stuff. It should be aired worldwide on children's prgrammes. At least in Europe.

Is it part of the WMT series?

I watched a lot of World Masterpiece Theater shows as a kid and I miss anime series like that a lot. Stuff like Little Women, Princess Sarah or The Dog of Flanders is something you just don't see anymore these days.

There have been 3 WMT series in the 2000's.

I also recommend Kemo no Saja

I'm just glad more Lindgren is getting love. My local library had all of her works (that made it into English, anyway), so I grew up reading everything of hers I could get my hands on. I hope this does well so that maybe we can see Mischievous Meg onscreen. That book in no way inspired me to jump off the woodshed with an umbrella. Really.

I might watch this. I'm not a big fan of CG though but hope the plot will be memorable.

More power to you, Goro Miyazaki. Be the man your father never was and could never be. Smile

What exactly is that supposed to mean?

Either a great compliment or a very back handed condemnation, it could be taken either way.

Giving the poster the benefit of the doubt, it could be an abstract reference to the fact that the son will now be doing an adaptation of a book by the very same author who once denied the father the chance to do the same with another one of her works.

I loved this book so much. I used to check it out from the library all the time as a little kailegh. Up until I lost it, payed the due, found it and kept it xD I'm going to be really picky while watching this, already I have a beef with how clean Ronia looks. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really happy and excited about this anime. Can't wait!

Which work?

A guess out of the blue; The Brothers Lionheart?

Nope; Pippi Longstocking. I've read about this only recently.
This would have been so awesome.
Here, some sketches:

To add to the above, it seems the designs/sketches were reused for the 1972 animated movie Panda! Go Panda!, so not all preparatory work was wasted.

It was only one year earlier, in 1971, the Miyazaki team had traveled to Sweden to discuss the Pippi Longstocking project with Lindgren and get permission for it, only to be turned down by her.
