OH GOD YES! OH ARCEUS YES! OH CELESTIA YES! Hopefully this one won't have all the red tape of the previous one and it'll actually be able to get licensed!

I don't think there really is any red tape for this series, it just wasn't a desirable license until maybe 2007-2008 when a fanbase began to really grow in the West. And since any licensors would have been so late to the party, and LoGH was such a large brand, the license cost was probably just too prohibitive for what licensees think they'd see in returns: it's a long goddamn show.

Legally, anyway. Nothing's going to stop people from watching it if they want to, except maybe lack of fansubs.

Maybe you don't, but since I never downloaded the files for the original anime that isn't licensed anywhere (and probably never will be), I'm very excited and hopeful that this new adaptation will be made available to western fans. Even if it is only streaming somewhere.

Well that's interesting to see, though I'm more confused than anything else...I mean, what more can you really bring to the table with a new adaptation? The original OVA is easily one of the greatest anime projects of all time, and as far as I'm aware it was quite faithful to the original novels. It's like that planned Ten Commandments adaptation: what is there left to do that Cecil B. DeMille and Charlton Heston didn't?

I see I'm going to have to avoid all mention of this show until I can finish the novels, now.

Well I hope this new LOGH anime won't be overpricey like the older series. Even if this show can get fansubs, don't expect fansubs to be up there for long due to Japan's anti-piracy and draconian copyright laws.

Uh...fansubs are not hosted in Japan. Indeed since they almost always torrents unless you use XDCC they technically aren't hosted ANYWHERE. And the largest site I know for anime torrents (not naming it) is in Sweden.

I don't think you have any idea what fansubbing is like if you believe Japan routinely takes them down from the internet. There are even BDrip fansubs for LoGH circulating right this very moment, in 720p of course since it's an upscale. And of course it'll be overpriced, it's Japan. Expect $30 an episode, at the very least, like normal.

I'm aware of that, but then again if you're talking about Youtube, those fansubs will probably take them down. Yes, I already know about Japan about being overpriced, I already mention about it whenever J-pop CDs are brought up. It would be a miracle if Crunchyroll can pick up the rights to legal stream LOGH, but I doubt it'll happen.

The original anime wasn´t licensed because it was too "aged" and not easy to market. 150+ episodes about Nazi "good guys" in space just doesn´t sound as exciting as softcore porn in highschool with mechs and angst. This you have to live with the subs. I watched the gaiden anime first and consider it to be important characterwork. I hope they don´t skip the bulk of that.

Off-topic, but were you aware that Asian releases of Japanese CDs and movies are usually cheaper than their domestic counterparts? And I'm not talking about bootlegs.
