COMPLETELY agreed. Appleseed's original manga is fun. The anime should not be dour and (laughably) self-serious. That approach worked for Ghost in the Shell, but the rest of Shirow's work should stay upbeat with designs closer to the source material. I'd also get a kick out a short adaptation of Orion.
