I find that rather sad...and somewhat pathetic. That reminds me, certain loonies (sub purists) think it's "cute" when seiyu speak English in anime when they likely have no idea what they're even saying. Yet if we attempt to speak Japanese or use words we know the definitions of, those same loonies claim we're "desecrating" their language. Sigh...

In the context of usage of the phrase and this column, it means "backlog", not "this shit sucks but here's a review". I guess just somewhere along the way, "a massive pile of media I need to get through" shifted from "pile of shame" (it is shameful I have not gotten to this media yet) to "backlog" (work that needs to be dealt with, but only ever grows). Maybe it's an age thing, maybe it's from fan community social shifts, but I guess many people have just never encountered "pile of shame" when used in that context, I hadn't until this column came. |
