As a region blocked non-American viewer, I hope CR gets these titles.

The Mushishi OVA that Aniplex put out a few months ago is on CR, so they should get the new season of that at least.

Chalk up four more series to the IP protectorate masquerading as a licensor otherwise known as Aniplex of America.

AoA's primary objective is not to make money from the United States, that is merely a secondary objective. Their job is to prevent Aniplex's properties from being reverse-imported into Japan in order to protect the comparatively larger profits from the home country. Yeah, they'll go through the motions of being a licensor because they do want the sales they can get here. But their releases have gotten progressively worse and worse in audio and visual quality, even on BD, to the point Crunchyroll is offering better resolution and bitrates than the releases themselves.

In other words, effectively renting the product through a stream is a better deal for the consumer than buying the physical release. This doesn't make much sense until you realize what AoA is. Does it make any sense to release new seasons of Black Butler sub-only when the original dubbed sets by FUNimation by all accounts sold pretty well? Not from a profit perspective, no.

Many of AoA's dubs wouldn't have even been made without someone else footing the bill. Viz paid for Blue Exorcist, Fate/ZERO, and Magi to get dubbed. Only Madoka, DRRR!!, and possibly SAO had dubs intentionally made.

Will AoA gladly take your money? Of course. Plus without having a middleman like FUNimation releasing the product, Aniplex gets every penny of the sale. But that is not their primary objective. Their primary objective is to protect the home market of Japan. And they do that very well.

And yes, this rant is from a bitter Mushi-Shi fan who knows he won't have the money to afford buying the new season. So I admit there's some nerdrage going on here.

Agreed.

Mushishi had a really good dub too.

Sigh, i held out some hope that Aniplex would not get Irregular, although they have SAO, Viz did Accel World. Oh well, I guess I will bite.

Yes, that was why I was happy to hear that Aniplex got the new Mushi-shi ... the strong likelihood it will be on Crunchyroll (likely for North and South America, possibly other regions).

The Mushi-shi special was in

,,, it would be nice if the series had the same distribution, but I'm not counting any region access chickens until they're hatched.

I'm sorry but this makes zero sense.

How the hell does AoA existing stop Reverse-Importation? Last I checked, their stuff is almost always still cheaper than the Japanese releases, and if they really had little care for providing us westerners with stuff, they wouldn't do shit like play the third Madoka movie in several countries, put SAO on Toonami...and that's just two things I can name.

I have little strong opinions on AoA one way or the other but the hand-wringing by you conspiracy theorists is starting to get tiring.

I don't believe Aniplex ever announced a Blu-Ray release of Mushishi season one. The Blu-Rays in Japan are just an upscale though, so you're not going to miss out on a huge leap in quality compared to the Funimation DVDs. I do hope that Aniplex releases the second season on Blu-Ray though, it would be a pity for it to only have a DVD release.

I believe the original poster was referring to Funimation announcing a bluray release of Mushishi, and they were correct. It was planned at one point, but it and a few other series had their bluray releases cancelled. I still have one of their promo booklets somewhere that lists Mushishi on bluray as "coming soon".

So you are arguing that what AoA is doing is trying to get the best possible combined profits. For media produced in pursuit of commercial benefit.

I'm shocked, shocked, to find that there is gambling going on in this casino.

Oh, plus a bunch of adjectives which seems to imply that you are by rights entitled for Aniplex to be run as a charity for your benefit, and they are violating that fundamental right.

Wow, that's pretty disappointing! I hope they revisit that at some point, but I don't have a lot of faith that they will. Out of curiosity, what else was listed and canceled?

You guys keep making a mistake with the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School) synopsis. You see, Tatsuya did awesome in normal grades - what he lacked were skills in practical magic, hence his being a Weed. Miyuki, however, did awesome in practical magic and thus became a Bloom.

Man, and I was kind of interested in checking out Irregular. Shame I can't afford to own it if i like it. Oh well. plenty other stuff coming out. And its kinda weird that Aniplex now has Mushishi, seeing as how season 1 is Marvelous and Artland, the studio that animates it and this new series, is owned i think by Marvelous.
