We WANT it to be Season 3 but we know nothing definite.

I haven't heard about any rumours. There was one announcemnt by JC Staff saying that:

there was nothing to announce about future plans for a continuation of the anime. It neither confirms nor denies that anything may happen in the future.

So: according to bakatsuki , 14 (13 + SS) novels have been animated so far, and the rest includes 9 more Old Testament volumes + 10 New Testament (ongoing)...

So, roughly speaking... there should be more 3 one-cour anime series to cover the whole thing? Shocked

There hasn't been a one-cour Index main stoyrline series yet. I'm not sure why they'd start now.

Based on how much meat there is in the remaining OT novels, if they do it in less than two 2-cour series they'll do it a severe injustice. The build up to WW3 and the Civil war is certainly enought for a 2-cour series.

I don't know about that and I don't think it's true...

They just put out an official statement around October/November saying they have nothing to announce regarding Toaru animation. And renewed that same thing in a magazine 2 months ago.

Hopefully it will be a season three announcement.

Lately, "Special Announcements" have been notifying fans that artist is retiring the manga or story or leaving the business.

It can't be an Accelerator spin-off because there's barely any material atm. That is also Daioh.

This specifies Bunko and lists Index announcement rather than "toaru series" it seems.
