Why is it every time cartoons joke about anime it's always the same thing. Always
-terrible speed racer-esq animation
-70s kung fu movie lip synching
-flashing backgrounds

Those are the most recognizable tropes!
Otherwise, it'd go over most people's heads.
And it won't be funny if you'd have to explain a joke. Laughing

Forgot that one.. I think it's stuff like this that makes me appreciate Panty & Stocking more. Those guys did research when they made fun of US animation. These parodies just seem so lazy and misinformed.

Well, of course! It's 1/3rd of 1 episode! They're not doing a whole series on it! Razz

Remember FLCL when it made fun of South Park? How much research do you think went into that? I bet it was still pretty funny to the Japanese. Laughing

But if ya guys still don't get it, ya can bite my shiny metal ass!
(Heheh, Bender is still the best robot out there.)

Best ep is still Jurassic Bark though!
Futurama isn't all just comedy. Idea

I don't think anything can be funnier than Atom's "My Anime Girlfriend". They can try, but they'll always be second place.

No More Heros 2: Desperate Struggle parody of the Magical Girl Anime genre.

I think that's only funny if you've played No More Heroes, and I haven't.

Aren't they all?

Stuff like this is always either anime = Speed Racer or anime = Pokemon.

I prefer the anime = La Blue Girl parody route.

Leela being farked by a tentacled monster with the face of Fry and the voice of Zoidberg? YES I WOULD BE THERE.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Futurama does, their past tales of interest were always great. I'd really like to see a wallpaper of that cast shot at the end (0:24).

For those who are upset at this 24 second preview using old tropes and anime stereotypes, what trope do you think would make a good parody that would work for a general american audience?

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing what the (probably combining) giant robot looks like that they presumably will be putting in to the episode Wink

I always figured Futurama would do this. I'm sure there's already been some minor anime references throughout the seasons. I had hoped for some old-school Ninja Scroll bloodshed (perfect counter to the unseriousness of the show), but this is good too.

I love Futurama, but the only funny part of that whole thing was Fry flying in while sleeping on the couch. And they could have done that without (poorly) parodying anime.
