It seems like they've specified in their application that they wanted an Anime Channel meant for people over 18 years old, then i don't see a reason why they would cut stuff out of existing series or movies.

This is great for Canada. We lack so much in appreciating world content, that we are usually stuck with either overpaid amero-series or self-worshipping garbage.

I think Shaw Cable users are the ones with the LEAST to fear, given the fact that YTV was owned by Shaw before, so I think things would happen more easily there.

As for the price of the channel, keep in mind that people are paying 15 to 30 bucks a month for TV Japan. 15 may not be exaggerated if the channel delivers on both classic and up to date modern content. Emphasis on the latter, since that is what will make or break the station. Expect a subscriber if it hits ExpressVu. Also, expect video submissions for info shows if you can't hire Phil back.

(This is why YTV is doing this, because we're the ones who made the network cool in the 90s. Also, they obviously won't go the way of SPACE given that it's an actual channel and not a cram-at-midnight thing.)

Even if it weren't aimed at adults, assuming it weren't explicitly aimed at children they probably wouldn't cut anything anyways.

It's supposed to be national, but category 2 channels "may be carried, optionally, by all digital cable television and direct broadcast satellite providers."

Hopefully it will be available via all digital cable and satellite service providers.

For starters, next to nothing is ever cut on Canadian airwaves. Secondly the correct spellings are just and violence and don't even get me started on your grammer.

Wrong awnser, kid. Correct awnser: violence removed: none, blood removed: very little. They [Viz] barely touched the damn thing, so I don't see where you are getting your information from.

First: the word is suprised, learn to spell. Second: I've done that too, and so have these guys and as you can see, at most there are less than 10 at most. one episode was even completly uncut. Also, in Canada, at most we only had five in one episode (to my knowledge).

Wrong on both counts, kid. NGE was hacked up on toonami but, far as I know, only had one edit on Adult Swim. Every other episode that had possibly objectionable content just got a TV-MA slapped onto it. Back in the early days of Bionix, YTV tried to edit MSGS and failed miserably. Since then, far as I know, they've onle made two or three edits to any other show (that other show being GitS which had sex scene from when that guy was watching porn on his computer removed the shit muted out of bullshit (not sure if that was only on the first run or on both of them) and the infamous "f*ck you" removed from the staircase in ep 26)

Please refrain from making fun of other's spelling or grammatical mistakes as their native language may not be English. Your grammar and spelling aren't that good either. Stop being a hypocrite. Just take a look at some of your spelling and grammatical errors in bold.

Hopefully, they add in more mature themed anime as the list of shows here aren't really appealing to me. Here is a list on the website:

What Shows Can I See?
Enjoy non-stop, 24 hour access to the following shows:

InuYasha III
.hack//SIGN
Battle B-Daman
Sonic X
Transformers Cybertron
Dual Masters
SD Gundam Force
Transformers Energon
Shaman King
Mew Mew Power
D.I.C.E.
InuYasha movies

It's not the same thing.

The "Anime on Demand" they're referring to on the YTV website is accessed via Rogers on Demand, which is only available with Rogers digital cable. It's pointless. They expect you to pay extra to watch the titles on demand (titles which air/ have aired on YTV regularly).

The per episode cost can add up to more than you'd pay to rent a volume of a series in a Rogers Video store.

I found the anime on demand a bit usefull to catch up to episodes i missed. but yea, it is pretty useless.

Also I agree with raven369, you don't prove your points by pointing out others grammatical errors. That you can complain about on a different note to the person. And if you had gone to any anime convention in Toronto, you'll notice many there do not speak English natively, including me.

English isn't my first language either so I don't think that is a very valid arguement, but I digress. As for what I said, I was in a horrible mood when I wrote it. I know that doesn't excuse my agression but I hope it shows a bit of insight into why I went off like that. To the writer I appoligize for losing it. I'm only human after all, and being in a bad mood will do that to a person.

Nope, this is completely different. The other one is a VOD service operated by the folks at YTV, this is going to be an entire channel (sort of like the anime network's 24/7 stream) that may be operated by YTV or directly operated by Corus. We won't know for sure untill it goes through though.

Like you just said everyone is human and nobody is perfect. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. That includes a person's writing abilities. Someone's writing skills may not be as good as others. Hell, my English isn't really all that great either. But I perfectly understand that a bad mood can get to you sometimes. Wink

On topic: I hope that this new channel will pull through. This anime channel is intended for older/adult audiences correct? I'm curious as to what shows they are planning to air. Anyone know of any restrictions that they might place on in terms of the violent content? Would something along the lines of Berserk be able to be shown?

I have this crazy theory they plan to air Gantz because my season 2 box set had both the american and canadian TV ratings. I also think that GitS 2nd GiG is up because YTV aired the 1st gig, Cowboy Bebop because I recall reading that there was an "unnamed Canadian broadcastor sitting on the rights" and FMP because a while ago one of Corus ent.'s programing reports stated that they had the rights to the series. I think that most of their programming is going to be rated 14+ or 18+ and have content and target demographics to match the ratings. I would also love to see Berserk. One thing that would be really cool is if (for no other reason than nostalgia) they aired classics like Macross or the Galaxy Express 999 movies. Most adults would be able to appritiate classics like those.

OK, Someone_II... will you please control yourself? You're throwing nothing but heresay around. There's absolutely no evidence that anyone ever had the rights to Cowboy Bebop, and even if that were the case the rights will have long expired by the time this station actually launches, considering most anime licenses only last about two years when they aren't renewed. All of your other claims are equally, if not more, baseless.

You'd really be surprised at just how much of a difference there is between American and Canadian television, especially in regards to what kind of content is allowed. YTV's anime block airs in early primetime, and the content almost always tends to be uncut - usually moreso than in the US. And it targets a 12-17 audience to boot.

The Anime Channel will probably will be marketed to a general audience. The "adult" thing is probably just to prevent them from being held accountable as a kid's station and being scrutinized for things like nudity and violence.

Sorry, this kind of thing happens when I have a bad day and go onto the forum boards. If I could delete my posts I probably would...unfortunatly that's no longer an option. Because of the absence of that option coupled with a bad day and a bit of pointless teenage angst the better part of my posts on my three regular boards were appolagies for going too far and saying something I ended up regretting earlier on it the day.

To the moderators: I know this post isn't contributing much to the topic other than appoligizing for my idiocy so feel free to remove it if you see fit.

The hearing for The Anime Channel takes place on November 14. We'll see if the license is granted and if we see it on digital cable as early as 2007.
