Don't know why you're tossing everyone into the same boat when western fans are very diverse and demand different things of the medium. Plenty of us love fetishized fanservice material.

@ Ali07 Ahem, yes, Ruri! I thought I'd fixed that in my final draft. I'm getting as bad as my students... But you're right, she probably is an intentionally difficult character. I'm never fond of the two-faced type in manga (or anywhere, actually), though I'll admit she seemed to provoke a more extreme reaction in me. |
It's an interesting one. I've met people that can be manipulative and two-faced...and, well, let's just say I don't interact with them anymore. But, I haven't encountered a fictional character that has provoked a strong reaction (yet).
Still, your reaction is understandable. For the most part, they're the type of character that seem to learn a "life lesson" along the way, unless they're just the villain...
I don't know where they will go with Marika, whether she will change her ways or not. Only because, I think the only way she may change would be if she is given a reason to move on/grow out of her obsession with Raku.
Potentially, this could happen if/when they actually start using the keys to open Raku's locket. I wouldn't be surprised if Marika goes first and is eliminated that way, meaning her obsession is (essentially) based on nothing. Now that I think about that, it may be the only way that a girl would be "eliminated from the race".
Marika does offer what the other harem members don't, and that is a character that will use manipulative tactics to try to win Raku. Chitoge, Tsugumu, and Onodera don't even look close to entering that kind of territory.
So, while different, it is also a character trait that should be used sparingly. I feel like if she starts taking the spotlight away from Chitoge and Onodera, it may affect my enjoyment of the series.
At the end of it all, Ruri = best girl.

I think that's true, although if you look at all three keys, Marika's is the only one with the same basic design around its head as Raku's lock, which may indicate that she's the "real" one. This has me a bit worried, but perhaps it could be used to discuss the general silliness of this particular romance trope?
I tend to get very emotionally involved with whatever I'm reading, at least if it's well written. Just ask my poor sister about when I was reading Sara Douglas - she endured so many of my "Axis sucks" rants to the point where she asked why I was still reading the series.

Maybe so. Just find that it is a bit too much of a giveaway this early in the game.
The gimmick is a silly one. While I don't mind it, I have doubts that lock and key will be the deciding factor in who gets chosen (I'm hoping that we don't see a harem ending).

I don't know why, but I find that it seems to take a lot to get me emotionally involved in any sort of entertainment. I mean, I love HIMYM. When I heard about the ending (as we were behind in Australia at the time), I actually like it.
On the other hand, my sister was actually upset about the ending. She puts my reaction down to being a guy.

Oops. As you could probably tell from the column, I'm more a DC girl than a Marvel one. Knew that would bite me someday, and not just in the movie department![/quote

To be fair, even though I fell in love with Spidey via the '90s cartoon, DC has had the better and more sophisticated cartoons over the years: from Batman: The Animated Series, to the Justice League series and the cancelled too soon Young Justice and Green Lantern TAS. Good stuff. As an animation fan, I wish there were more Marvel series that lived up to them.
Princess_Irene wrote: | And now, the recipe! It's easier than it sounds:
Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
pinch salt (I usually use Kosher)
1 cup milk
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted and cooled
1 cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
12 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Cake:
Preheat oven to 350
In a bowl, combine dry ingredients (6 tbsp of the cocoa powder) and mix well. Whisk in the milk and half the butter. Pour (or scrape, it will be a stiff batter) into a buttered/greased 2 quart baking dish.
Sauce:
Slowly stir remaining cocoa into syrup. Bring syrup to a boil in a saucepan. When boiling, remove from heat and stir in remaining butter and vanilla. Pour over cake batter and bake 35-45 minutes. Will be puffy and sort of a bubbling golden brown. The sauce will form a "pudding" on the bottom; make sure to put it on the plate with that part on top.
Vanilla Cream:
Amounts of ingredients will vary. To heavy cream or whipping cream (anywhere from a pint to a quart) add between 1 and 3 tablespoons of sugar and between 1 and 3 teaspoons of vanilla extract. This totally depends on how sweet/strong you want the cream to taste; I usually use 1 1/2 of sugar and 2 of vanilla. Whip to desired consistency, preferably something fairly soft that still holds its form. Top hot pudding cake with cream, eat immediately.
You can also make this without the cocoa, which is also delicious. |
That sounds delicious! Is there any way to make the pudding without the cake?
