I was not expecting an announcement like this at all! I always thought it would be Sentai who would eventually one day license Free!...

At least if Funimation dub it then it has a good chance of being a decent dub. I don't see why they can't just say they have season 1 now as well. It's kind of obvious that they do because it would be stupid if they had season 2 but not season 1.

Well, this is nice! I wonder if Funimation will also get season 1.

Someone now needs Hyouka, isnt that the only recent kyoani anime unlicensed now?

And Nichijou. I would buy up both as soon as they came out if they got licensed.

So they're doing Sports anime now? Or is it for the fanserivce? *crosses fingers for Kuroko and Ace*

Either way, good job FUNi.

Yessssssss.

I really, really want a pretty special edition Blu-Ray release, too. I mean, I'll buy it regardless, but if they give me that...*happiness*

I doubt Funi is going for sports, though; Free is probably classified as 'different.' But if it does succeed, perhaps they'll be willing to test the waters with similarly popular titles, like Kuroko.

Not my cup 'o green tea, but I'm glad for all the Free! fans. I hope it makes a nice bundle of money for Funimation and maybe gets them to look at other "different" anime.

What?!
This is so unexpected. FUNimation licensing Free! Eternal Summer. Always thought Sentai Filmworks would license it. Streaming and home video rights! FUNimation, thank you, to all parties for putting Free! fans out of our misery of awaiting for a physical release of the series Razz

Hope this counts Season 1 home video rights of Free! Iwatobi Swim Club.

How are you going to license season 2 without licensing season 1?

Licensing season 2 before season 1...

Guess Funimation & Sentai had a bidding war, because if i'm not wrong Sentai has been doing pretty much all KyoAni releases for a couple of years now. And the fact that it took this long before anyone licensed it... Could've been other things as well I guess, it was quite a hit in Japan.

Best announcement ever and disc rights, please release a super special awesome edition like Shingeki got!!!

Wait, what? AoT got a super special awesome edition release?

Shocked

Haven't seen much other than complaints for the AoT LE release. Scratched discs due to poor packaging, no box to protect the digipacks/books, which means dirt & dust will make their way into the discs and pages easily.

KyoAni is not the company to look at:

Really quite different from a number of recent KyoAni titles that were handled internationally by TBS (and their stuff is almost always licensed by Sentai):

A nice change of pace, for Funimation. Too often they license things that I don't like.

Woohoo! I hope that means an eventual home video release of the 1st season as well by Funi. Very Happy
