Yea, I think I'm gonna have to drop this show. Thespoiler[ partial rape scene] was just poor form. Do anime writers just have ridiculously crazy ideas of how love interests (and in particular same sex love interests) come together? I guess they just have it in their heads that the audience is totally expecting one partner spoiler[to try and force themself on the other partner], and if it doesn't happen then things won't be "authentic" or something. I don't know... or maybe people won't believe that the top has enough "passion" if he spoiler[doesn't try to assault the bottom]. It was just so stupid to me. (Plus, the cartoonishly over-the-top way spoiler[Ryouma says "amai" over and over while licking Izumi's tears and whatnot...] no... I just can't... I was like literally trembling between cringes.) I know that the writing will spend the next several episodes showing us how much Ryouma is a sweet, great guy with a heart of gold, but why even go into this kind of territory in the first place? It felt totally fake and forced on us, the audience.

That was unfortunate enough, but I am also just not able to get into Izumi's look. His eye color is so strange, and I know it is supposed to be all glamorous and cool that he has multi-colored eyes like that, but it feels very childish to me. When I was 10 years old I might have designed a character with eyes like that, but now it just feels so very tacky.

He also doesn't come across as "cute" to me. He does look a bit anorexic, but not particularly cute. I would much rather spend 23 minutes watching androgynous Kirito than Izumi. I don't know. So much of this show rings so hollow for me.

Guess Ryouma was feeling extra scared of Shougo.
Izumi was feeling the pleasurable consequences of previous episode LOL
Damn, he seem to have like it too.
Rei seems to be very knowledgeable about BL stuff.
Seeing Ryouma sent Izumi running away screaming.
Wow, I was half expecting him to attack Izumi again.
Instead he just apologized.. still it's obvious he likes Izumi.
Giving him a total makeover was fun ^^
The whole thing totally turned into a date-like situation.
At least we got an explanation why Ryouma was so eager to see him.
OMG! He confessed!! Damn, things are moving fast!
Accepting Ryouma as a friend was a dangerous decision.
That guy is so gonna be one clingy friend...]

Best part of the episode: spoiler[Izumi being relieved that he's not a BL character. Laughing

I liked it that everyone, Ryouma included,spoiler[ acknowledged that what he did to Izumi was awful. That doesn't make it undone, but it's a lot better than the genre usual treats sexual assualt. I also liked Izumi's deadpan reaction to the confession: looks like there lies a long, stoney path ahead of Ryouma-kun... Wink

I am sorry to break it to you buddy, but you are about to fall down the rabbit hole.

Can anyone that reads the manga give me a hand here?

It looks like in the preview that Ryouma is about tospoiler[ kiss Izumi as he's sleeping. Is he seriously about to assault him AGAIN?] Because if so, that's it for me.

I was in this for the hilarity of the seiyuu crossover between this and Free! - Hirakawa Daisuke's characters are both even named Rei, for crying out loud! - and because people have been saying that it handles the rape becomes love trope better than most BL stories. But so far, I'm not exactly impressed. I was going to give it another episode to further convince me, but it's beginning to look like it's not going to get any better?

spoiler[Izumi's dreams are very amusing.
He's a total megalomaniac in them..
Also, he's completely delusional about his manga.
Ryouma was totally overreacting about the e-mail block LOL
Izumi won't be able to get rid of him... ever!
Ryouma is practically stalking him.
Damn, that guy really is a piece of work.
It was fun watching Ryouma's shocked face over the art.
Those two really do exist only in their own worlds..
Izumi actually invited Royuma to help out, a shocker... not.
Still, it's interesting how casually he invited him to his room.
In the end Ryouma seems to have more art talent than Izumi.
Looks like he got into some other trouble on his day off.
He still managed to take advantage of passed out/sleeping Izumi ^^

It really does remind me of Haruka! Her eyes had that yellow, obscure color like the main character :3 I really love the storyline so far, and am not surprised I am liking this BL Smile

Episode 5

That's right, spoiler[invite the almost stalker who almost raped you into your room, eventually falling unconscious]. I think the best parts of the episode was spoiler[Ryouma acting really girl like, going "kyaa" and such]. Maybe a little hard to see who is the top and the bottom.

spoiler[Sagara was happy Izumi had a friend.
He just wasn't happy when he realized it was Ryouma.
Well, he was relieved when he saw it was about manga.
Those paparazzi pics with Izumi got Ryouma into trouble.
Sagara cooked up something with Ryouma's President.
Now poor Izumi needs to make a debut..
It was about time someone told him how much his drawing sucks.
His depression was to be expected..
I was kinda surprised he went directly to Ryouma's place.
Guess he felt like not going home.
The bathroom part was sweet, LOL & total nosebleed material ^^
Izumi sure was acting strange.. totally not like his usual self.
Ryouma was the one that suffered the most, but managed to be a true friend.
That ending, OMG! Things could take a very interesting turn!]

Well, I'm still watching this show, but wyntre_rose probably stopped I believe and for good reason. The comedy and overall characters are fun, but the spoiler[assaulting thing] needs to stop and it's seriously bringing my rating of this show down. If you want to add spice to scenes, there are other ways.

spoiler[OMG! Epic beginning.
Didn't appreciate the censor though.
Was surprised to see Izumi confused & disappointed about Ryouma backing off.
Guess he does like him after all..
This anime sure is making nice progress.
Izumi's Lala-Lulu dreams are amusing.
Rei was seriously worried about Izumi.
Ryouma took that extra step for Izumi's manga just to cheer him up. Sweet!
That sure boosted his confidence ^^
It was nice to see Ryouma got acknowledged by Izumi, but their relationship still has a long way to go.]

Episode 7

Poor Rei, I hope [spoiler]he was able to drink a lot of coffee[, or maybe just the stress was enough/spoiler]. There were a few sweet moments like spoiler[seeing all of the messages and the one from his idol].

Characters sure getting physically intimate. I wonder how it may progress? *Sakura Trick OP suddenly plays through mind* Won't kiss me... Anime smallmouth

That godawful censorship. Dear lord, it's gotta be the worst I've seen.

In spite of that, I think this is one of the high points of the story, mostly because of everything Ryouma does for Izumi,spoiler[ especially refusing his offer of 'I-don't-give-a-fudge-anymore' sex]. This moreso when you consider how your run-of-the-mill BL would've turned out.

Also, it was this part in the manga that made Rei into my favorite character. He's so fricking precious

I think this is what's troubling me about this series (aside from Izumi seeming less like an adult and more like an abused child - his bruised-looking eyes don't help to dispel that image). Normally I can just go with it, because all the rapey BL cliches are as absurd as any other sort of ecchi. But this is just close enough to reality that I can see them actually behaving that dysfunctionally (I'm sorry, I'll never do it again... *does it again*), and it bothers me that we're meant to root for this relationship. Luke & Laura redux. :/ Even the last shot of them in the end credits bothers me, with Ryouma smiling happily, while Izumi looks like he wants to escape. This is a tough one...

But it does have its moments, and I'll see how they play it all out.

Yeah, I think this instance of their weird censorship might have been even more distracting to me than the first.

But other than that, good episode, it seems like Izumi may have grown a bit as a person, realizing how his actions affect others. And it was sweet to see how much Rei really cares about Izumi, and how Ryouma spoiler[managed to get Lala-Lulu's mangaka to write a message for Izumi.]
