The fact that people have already donated 150k+ bothers me a lot.

There's definitely a fandom out there that's not people here.

That is not entirely true. Robotech was my window into anime, as such it will always have a place. I still have my VHS pack, the original VHS pilot, and recently upgraded to DVD.

I also love Macross, especially Plus and Frontier.

I would love to see new Robotech, especially a continuation from the Robotech novels. But Harmony Gold doesn't seem to be going in that direction, nor has the money, will, and passion to do their franchise proper.

I too, also wish that they resolve their issues with Macross and its many sequels.

I wouldn't worry too much. It was $158.003 yesterday as seen in this screenshot courtesy of NottJim.

Today as of right now it's $158.013. ... Laughing Laughing

How do you figure? Hasbro settled out of court.

The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, preventing HG from filing the same claim again: animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-10-17/harmony-gold-usa-v-hasbro-case-dismissed
Hasbro also ended up selling the SDCC Jetfire (that was the center of the lawsuit) on their Hasbro Toy Shop webstore immediately after the lawsuit was dismissed, and they're coming out with a new transforming Jetfire that more resembles the original. I rather doubt they'd be doing that if they settled to give HG a cut of the profits.

The same tactics that they use to scare fans of Macross don't work on a huge multinational that's likely going to see a huge Q3 profit thanks to Michael Bay. Plain and simple, Hasbro has legal muscle that you really don't want to mess with.

The best way to combat it wouldn't even be arguing, it would be choosing to outright ignore these threads. What's even the deal with
Robotech's fanbase? Has it been taking on new fans since the 90s or is it just a bunch of resilient hangers-on? Macross Frontier definitely brought in new people who'd never heard of Macross or Robotech before – my first experience with either was when Plus was on AniMonday followed by the Frontier Deculture episode in late 2007, so I've never had any Robotech nostalgia to speak of or have thanks for.

The judge threw it out with prejudice, meaning they aren't allowed to try again. Because they keep trying. They've suppressed anything related for decades to the best of their ability.

There was a different Robotech Kickstarter that saw ginormous success. I wonder why this one isn't doing as well ... spoiler[*cough* Harmony Gold *cough*]

Also kind of weird to see Macross fans triumph Hasbro for stopping HG's nonsense. Hasbro is no stranger to lawyer bull (the devs ended up changing the game's name). I guess it's an enemy of my enemy scenario.

Hasbro also douchily called a sub-line of Transformers "Machine Robot Rescue" in order to block Bandai from releasing Machine Robo Rescue in the US, at least under the same name. Kinda doubt Bandai had any plans to bring it over in the first place, though.

There are many fools in this world, and fools with money are even more. That's your answer.

I know this is technically a necropost, but we have new information.

As of 4 hours ago, the project officially failed/was cancelled, with only $194,574 of its goal raised.
