Anybody remember Yomigaeru Sora: Rescue Wings?

Well it had a pilot. I had it recently submitted to MAL's database. Here's the info on it:

Quote:
Yomigaeru Sora was initially supposed to have a female protagonist with sharper animation. Due to Yuji Matsukura (J.C.Staff Executive Officer, Head of Production), Katsushi Sakurabi (Director), and Fumihiko Takayama (Series Composition) outvoting Kiyoshi Sugiyama (Producer), the story was changed to have a male protagonist with simpler animation.

Sakurabi's original idea for the anime was made into pilot and the pilot was included with the 7th volume of the Limited Edition DVD Box Set.

I honestly liked the pilot way more than the anime.

If anyone wants a semi-list of pilots, MAL has a decent segregation of them: http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?q=pilot
sorry about anime just titled pilot.

Fix Winsor McCay's name!!!

Contributing to the topic: My favorite anime pilot is a draw between Route 20 and t.A.T.u Paragate.

Here's pilot that isn't anime, but was produced by a lifelong anime fan. Tim Eldred's excellent comic Grease Monkey has a cool animated pilot he adapted: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9G3eDy4BItHqKfApqOpxoA

Here's one you wouldn't expect: the pilot for Adult Swim's Welcome to Eltingville was animated entirely in Japan, and because of that, as well as the fact that like Home Movies, it had a high enough budget and a low enough amount of risqué content to air on Cartoon Network Japan, with a Japanese dub and everything!

(Other pilots like the under appreciated Korgoth of Barbaria weren't so lucky, but that's because Adult Swim isn't part of Cartoon Network in Japan.)
