There might be some ambiguity as to whether an edit counts as a second guess before the quote poster evaluates the answer, but it seems obvious to me that if the quote poster says that the answer is not correct, then the guess has been used--as is the case here.

^There is precendent for the quote poster saying "that's incorrect" but giving the responder a chance to make a correction if it's a minor one. Case in point, someone posted a quote from Maria the Virgin Witch and I answered "A talking to B about XYZ in NN" but I had the names of A and B reversed and I was given the chance to make the correction.

Personally I saw Yttrbio saying Hikari was close was kind of an open invitation to fix it. If you didn't want to give them that chance why not just say they're wrong and leave it at that?
At any rate whether to accept an edit or not has always been entirely up to the quote poster.

To congratulate the guesser on the closeness of the guess before the quote is officially over? To give an aside clue to the subsequent guessers? General chattiness? There are many reasons why a poster may wish to indicate that a guess was close. Certainly an invitation to edit is not the only one--and the least reasonable one, given the one guess per user limitation.

Um, this is pretty much how the game usually runs. Checking the thread at the right time to beat someone else to an easy/moderate difficulty quote has been a significant factor since the beginning.
As for the rest, let's put it this way: if the quote poster intends to give a guesser a chance to edit his/her answer (which is, indeed, at the poster's discretion) then that must be explicitly stated. Otherwise a "close" response is assumed to have a "but no cigar" attached to it.

Hint 1: The way that the speaker makes someone 'stronger' is downright cruel

Hey, at least I have common sense. Which is more than I can say for our resident revisionists . . . . . .

The funny thing about 'common sense' is that there's nothing common about it.

Hint 2: The speaker is a murderer
If you are wondering how is it that I am posting hints, it's because of an open turn.

Oh, I assumed it was because you had posted a quote, nm then...
Ignore this hint, which I post in celebration of the concept of "open turn".

There have been a lot of posts since your quote. I had trouble finding it just now, to confirm that I do not know it.
Maybe you should post it, and the hints, again for the new page.
