It's truly a sad day when women can't get a new haircut to make them feel better. Not being a woman myself, I can't judge, but isn't one of the reasons there are corner beauty salons is for a place women gather to get a new hairdoo? Or, am I out of touch with modern feminism's or political correctnes' takeover of hair salons and their transformations into cold dens of social feminist upheaval. I like Mr. Santos' personal take on what women should be like when he writes, "Surely girls these days have other priorities besides looking pretty." He furthers states that the ideas behind Beauty Pop are "chauvinistic idea[s] that getting a cute haircut will make everything better in a girl's life." It somehow implies that men are behind this affrontery of a concept to the goddess in all women. I thought even a goddess likes to look good once in while. And when a goddess looks good, a goddess feels good.

Thank goodness for shoujo manga, where girls are still girls, not the feminist equivalent of old Soviet Union steroid-filled-female athletes. Wink

While I like the feminine side of manga (my bookshelf is almost entirely shoujo) I think what Santos means is that Beauty Pop is a little overly dramatic regarding the power of a makeover xD

That being said, I really like Beauty Pop. I guess, though being a shoujo fan, I'm a sucker for those little boy manga that are all about the guys' suceeding in the end (I think Shounen Jump series are GREAT xD) The actual fighting scenes of those manga don't interest me, however, so Beauty Pop is a great compromise.

I really like Beauty Pop as well. Kiri reminds me of Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club. It's original and fresh, but it won't sway me to have my hair done every week. I think that it doesn't have that much of socially backwards attitude to girls. It's just that girls like feeling pretty and it was only the character Hiroyo who really wanted to be beautiful to impress her tutor.

Depsite being a male and having zero interest in makeovers or hair cutting, I can't help but like this manga. Kiri's personality is a big reason for that as I really like her type of heroine. Like CloverKuroba, she reminded me of Haruhi a bit as well.
