I agree with that last part, there are so many times when I am watching an anime and my mother/father/girlfriend/friends/etc comes in and ask why I am watching a show for children. And quite frankly I am tired of explaning to them why Pokemon is for adult......just kidding. But in all seriousness, that honestly my biggest problem (Maybe not the best word choice) with anime (and how the majority look at it) that even thought this show I might be watching may have better writing and music it's still a kids' show.

Why wasn't Conqueror of Shamballa nominated? Was it because there was no official announcement to its theater release on tv and it was only in theaters for a short time? sigh...

Because it's a spin-off of a show which people would have to watch to appreciate?

this one would assume that it did not have it's required LA screening.

Also because it came out more than a year ago, and thus does not qualify to be a 2006 Oscar nominee. Same reason the Cowboy Bebop movie didn't get the nod last year.

Wow, first day back from an unwanted thousand mile trek, and this is the first thing I see on the front page. Makes me feel a little better.
I hope it gets nominated. I haven't seen it yet, but from everything I can gather it does deserve it.
Going to sleep now

Count me in as well for hopin' that some other animated movie that doesn't have Miyazaki's name attached to it gets thrown in and comes away with an Oscar. It wouldn't make that drastic of a change to the general public's opinion about those crazy cartoons from Japan, but it would be yet another small step forward, never mind Kon finally get more deserved recognition.

The bulk of your question has been answered (and GATSU is correct this time, I've seen the movie and it wouldn't make a lick of sense to anyone not intricately familiar with the minute arcana of the show), but, just to correct you, nothing has been nominated yet. That doesn't happen until January. This is merely the short list of films eligible for nomination.

Ant Bully was in the theaters? When? How long? I remember seeing a trailer for it, then it disappeared.
Well, I hope that Paprika gets a solid nod from the Academy. How many of the others on the list would be considered "adult" rather than "Kid Fare"?

I have a feeling the same fate will befall Arthur and The Invisibles.

What, the last word in your sentence minus the "s"?

It was released the weekend in between Monster House and Barnyard and theatre counts dropped like a rock just two weeks after it was released.
The review I read made it sound like it was Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto for Young'uns.

You're confusing Ant Bully w/ The Smurfs.

For a second I thought it was being considered in the regular best movie category. Best animated movie means crap, honestly. They just take all the crappy CG movies that came out in the year and pick one that was somewhat entertaining (of the past years' animated category, Wallace & Gromit is the only one that truly deserved an award). It pisses me off beause they're just singling out animated movies and not letting the truly great ones stand up against every other movie. If The Lion King and Snow White could be nominees for best movie, other animated movies could too. The thing is, there aren't that many great ones, so now they've just made a category to fit in all the mediocre ones instead of honoring the really good ones (when they come along).
